Adamman Releases Defiance v0.1 Beta
Posted by Nick on 23 January 2000, 05:26 GMT

Defiance v0.1 BetaFirst off, sorry for the lack of many news items this week. It's been finals week for me, Phil and Eric, and as a result things have been rather hectic in our real lives. :)

With that aside, here's some rather exciting news on the TI-82 front. Adamman has been working on a first-person shooter called Defiance v0.1 Beta. This program looks like it has a lot of promise, but it is a demo version so don't expect anything mindblowing. Nonetheless, the idea is great, and it runs incredibly smooth. Defiance can run on either Ash or CrASH. You can view Defiance's homepage here.

OK the fileinfo page for Defiance seems to exist now, with the cool animated screenshot to boot. Although strangely, the author field is blank.

This reminds me of the time, I saw my first 3D-game on my C64 - how is it possible with a 6 mHz CPU!?

Great job!

A simple implementation of a 3D ray-casting engince really isn't that complex, well the mathamatical principles arn't anyway. Many of calculations needed for raycasting can be precalculated and stored in tables. When you consider that 6Mhz is 6 million instruction cycles per soecond, processor speed isn't that much of a problem for a simple ray-casting engine. Though when more features are added, it will be more difficult to keep the game running at a good rate of fps.
