Programmers Anonymous: pa.ticalc.org
Posted by Nick on 9 January 2000, 18:40 GMT

Programmers AnonymousWe have another hosted site for all of you! This time, real estate on the ticalc.org machine is taken up by Programmers Anonymous. PA is a programming group, primarily for BASIC programs. They've also begun programming a bit in assembly. They've written many programs for the 89 and the 92 Plus, including the featured program and top download Risk 89. Their page is extremely well-designed and you should check them out as soon as you can. :)

The flash intro was made by Matt Scanlan (HSolo2@aol.com). He did an excellent job, and he just sent me a new version, which I'll upload in a few minutes. I made the rest of the site.

For some reason I was in Netscape Communicator 4.6 today and I tried to view the PA website. The site detected that I have the right plug-ins but then it just held up and displayed a black page. Is this page compatible for both Internet Explorer and Netscape? Also remember a large flash intro will greatly increase page loading time and causes hassles to many site visitors. You may want to think I adding a splash page which enables a user to look at the intro or just skip it.

Yeah, we just discovered that today. There used to be a skip intro button on the site, now it's part of the movie. Go to the above URL to skip the movie or use MIE. It'll be fixed for Netscape users soon.

I investigated this further, by opening View -> Page Info in Netscape and found that that the Flash intro isn't on the server right now for some reason. A further check of the source of http://pa.ticalc.org/ shows the non-Flash homepage to be:

http://pa.ticalc.org/Static.htm

This will go to PA's main page.

The Flash thing is still there as far as I know. It's in Flash/movie.swf and the html that loads it is Flash/pa_movie.html.

I'm sure the flash intro is very nice, but It sorta keeps me from entering your site. On a PC I can scroll down and click the skip intro button, but not on a mac. You should have a flashed and unflashed version option before the intro.

The Flash Intro is very nice, I'd like to know how to do that stuff... The rest of the page is pretty cool too. They could loose the Advertisements though, those things kind of Junk up the page, makes it seem like another crappy internet site on geocities or whatever, but now they are on ticalc which is an organization, not a commercial site, so the Ads are bad. =P

The only advertisements are on the counter and polls. Both are hosted by Pollit.com. We're going to write our own scripts and host them on one of our member's page because I don't like ads either.

No offense, Sherm, but it kinda sucks. I let you know that on that annoying quizlet that pops up. You have no real content, other than a half-assed BASIC shell (is it me, or did we all agree not to support BASIC shells a while back?) and a quasi-timeline of the shell's history. Possibly, and I'm giving you a little credit here, MAYBE, ticalc.org will host you, if you 1.) get some real content, 2.) take those annoying ads off your page, and 3.) make something useful to the TI community.

OK FIRST:
my page doe NOT consist of a half-shitty shell for the TI-83. There are OTHER programs, as you might want to check out the other links! there are 5 programs in the works...
there are no ads except on my quizlet, but hey, i don't control it!
and i am making something more useful to the TI community... check out the 'DEVELOPER's PAGE'
and another thing, check out the timeline in a few days. i just uploaded it and still was working on it, so give me a couple of days here!

Dude, why do you complain about ads on websites when you put them on your own? Geez! Perhaps a little consistency, maybe!

It's obvious he did not create either of those ads on his webpage; however, there are other webhosting sites that don't add in pop-up ads. I agree that they are annoying.

I agree that the ads need to be more "loose". As of right now, they are umbearably tight, making everyone else look bad for having less cool ads.

Note that the above was a joke.

Great...that's all we need is another ti-89/92 programming group..dont we have enough of those already? Ti-83+ to the max!

You're so ignorant. A lot of people program for the TI-89 because it is more powerful, thus allowing them to make larger and more graphical games. The TI83+ can't handle grayscale, and isn't close to as fast...Many more people would rather support the TI-89 as it is closer to programming a gameboy or something of more power...

People like you are exactly the reason the rest of us characterize TI-83+ users as idiots. Programmers can make games for whatever calc they please, and they certainly aren't responsible to you or your crappy calculator. Go away.
