Gooey 89 and GIDE Delayed by h4X0r
Posted by Nick on 31 December 1999, 00:05 GMT
Many of you have seen the posts on assembly-89 concerning h4X0r and his development - or the lack thereof - of Gooey and GIDE. Lots of you emailed or IM'ed me and h4X0r with your concerns. Since I just got home less than a half-hour ago, I'm going to post as much info as I can on the matter. Here is the IRC log of me talking with h4X0r at about 4:30 PM CDT. It also contains a forwarded email of the posts by h4X0r and Scott Dial of the TCPA that started the whole mess. Props to Rob Smith for taking his time to forward this to me. More information will come soon. Please read all of the IRC log after reading the email; it helps to answer even more questions, though I still doubt their validity. Update (Nick): Alright. Two friends of mine (who choose to remain anonymous) have given me proof beyond a reasonable doubt that this is a total hoax. I have posted a rudimentary copy of GIDE. The readme reads as follows: "Do not distribute this, it still has a few bugs and code thats not mine :) --h4x0r" Also note that this program bears a striking resemblance to SynEdit. Another person has made some annotations to h4X0r's screenshot and given them to me; I have posted them here. Once again, I apologize to everyone for the confusion and the problems that have occurred over the past few days.

hey i would just like to tell everyone to SHUT UP! no offense, but you're making too big of a deal out of this. even if gooey 89 and GIDE are fake...so what....h4x0r doesnt get paid to do this....he's not working for anyone...why do you have to make such a big deal out of him being late on it....or if not late...not making it at all...these programmers are working for free....respect and appreciate them for who they are....and don't augment (is that the right word to use?) their shortcomings. =)

ok now this makes me really mad. Ticalc deleted an -on-topic-message- and it had nothing bad in it. What is wrong with you guys? can't you take a little vulgarity every now and then expecially when it involves a selfish little prick named h4x0r? I mean cmon, that comment didn't offend anyone and you deleted it, probably every comment I make is deleted and I bet this one will be too. FU*K it then. ohh yeah to make this even more on topic I would have to say that h4x0r is a lame j00bee, man that was loads 'o aol fun.

The rom 2.00 was so called a "total hoax" by almost the whole TI-community.But it was not.
When something is so much desired like the rom 2.00 or the free h4X0r'SDK, rumors are running, because "it is so much beatiful to be true".

Is it just me, or does this download give an "illegal operation" error to everyone?

ok, I can't find it again, but someone on this post board stated that even though the ti89 is superior in every way, and that the ti86 game programmers put more heart into their work. It was stated that the ti86 games are funner and better.
Sadly I(a ti89 owner) must agree with that person.
The 86 has a better pacman, the 83 has a better tetris (on 2 player mode you can view the other persons height of blocks) and although I'm not a programer and pretty much don't know squat about programming the simplest of things, I don't feel I'm getting the "superior" gaming experience. By GOD!! we don't even have a "poker" game that shows actual cards (not text) and links with another ti89 yet!!!!!
Personally, I don't think doorsos is that bad yet. True I hate messing with all the libs but if people would create worthy games, it'll all be worth it.
WE COULD DO BETTER!
true i actually feel guilty about not being able to do a single thing about it, and i'm not even an amature when it comes to computer programing. and i'm not saying i could do better,
BUT OTHERS CAN!
I'M SICK OF HAVING A SUPERIOR CALCULATOR AND NOT HAVEING THE SUPERIOR GAMES. TI83 HAS GALAXIAN WHERE AS WE HAVE PHEONIX, B U T IT'S NOT GRAYSCALE AND HAS NO BACKGROUND. SADLY IT'S ONLY S L I G H T L Y BETTER WHEN IT SHOULD BE A THOUSAND TIMES BETTER.
HOPE SOMEONE OUT THERE SEE'S THIS AS ADVICE AND NOT INSULT.

are you saying you could design a chess game? because if you can that would be GREAT.
and if it's only 2p with move validity can you make it so your color (black or white) is always on your side?(I've seen some bad work from chess designers b4)
and also, i'm not very computer literate but i assume AI is computer vs. human.
I realize designing an AI is difficult, but those damn 83's and 86's have chess, and it's insulting that a more sophisticated and superior calculator can be missing such a great and common game
This is exactly what I was talking about too. TI 86 game designers actually put their heart into what they do, but I haven't seen anyone do that for the 89, except maybe for the Super Mario, Sonic, Zelda, and Pokemon games coming out. I meant phoenix is great, but they didn't put heart into it, it appears they simple improved space invadors and said "that's good enough".
We need some designers who make programs they can be proud of.

Heh, no.
>and if it's only 2p with move validity can you make >it so your color (black or white) is always on your

It seems to me that it is pointless to have a chess game without any AI. How many times do you have someone to play a calc game with you?
>and also, i'm not very computer literate but i assume >AI is computer vs. human.
Yes.
>I realize designing an AI is difficult, but those >damn 83's and 86's have chess, and it's insulting
Neither the 83 nor the 86 version has AI. And the 83 version doesnt even have move validity. If you just want a chess game that doesnt have any move validity, I.E. all you do is move pieces whereever you want, then sure, that is not hard to make.
>that a more sophisticated and superior calculator can >be missing such a great and common game
Give it time. Ever heard of Anglo-Saxon superiority?
>This is exactly what I was talking about too. TI 86 >game designers actually put their heart into what t>hey do, but I haven't seen anyone do that for the >89, except maybe for the Super Mario, Sonic, Zelda, >and Pokemon games coming out. I meant phoenix is
You dont think someone put their heart into sf2t, despite the fact that it is not always stable?
>great, but they didn't put heart into it, it appears >they simple improved space invadors and said "that's >good enough".
Have you ever thought about how you could code Phoenix?
>We need some designers who make programs they can be >proud of.
You should give people some time. For most people it takes a game or two to pick up the language well enough so that they can make a game that is up to your standards.
