AMS v2.03 Support For the 92 Plus?
Posted by Nick on 20 December 1999, 02:12 GMT

nXt asked me recently if any development is occurring on the 92/92+ side for AMS v2.03. So here's my question to all of you: is anyone working on porting stuff to AMS v2.03 for the 92 Plus? Any games under development? This seems to be a really overlooked issue, and it's one that needs concern. Feel free to post (intelligent) comments on the comment board regarding what should be done; if that doesn't tickle your fancy, you can always email me.

Should be more or less the same as the 89 - anyone try Kernel v0.6 and the AMS v2.03 stuff for it? I doubt that anything ported so far will have problems. . .

Well, it wouldn't have problems if the screen size and the controles were the same. They don't freeze the calc, but you can't play them. The controls are totally different.

Maybe it's possible to do a small computer program thats changes keys in ti 89 to make them compatible with 92+. I use sometime to disassemble 89 program and changes key by myself but it's boring. Just because i don't know a single word of c++ and i d'ont want program on asm fo Pc.

Well...

Is there a kernel for the 92+ like for the 89 for 2.0x?

If so, can't the games that already work for that be just recompiled for the different calculator without much trouble?

I don't think that anyone cares... no one uses the 92p.
I'm gonna go play worms, I suggest you do the same.

Well, this site doesn't have very many TI-80 users, yet it still supports it. I wouldn't rule out the 92+ yet. This came up on previous boards, because the 89 is simply more popular than the 92+.

What do you mean "No one uses the 92p"???

I have one!!! I use it!!! Maybe you should check around before saying things. Besides, more games should me made to work on the 92+!

I also have one. In fact, I just bought it for my class work. Please think before you rule out the 92+ altogether. I like it because of the keyboard and the larger screen. If anyone wants a tester for ported games, let me know. I would be happy to help test.

There are people that use a 92+

Just because the 89 is more popular doesnt mean that the 92+ isnt used. I know that almost anyone buying one now will get the 89, but people that had a 92 already(Such as me) upgraded. It was definitly a lot cheaper to spend $35 to buy a module than $150 for an 89. Although I know its not as big an issue, the 92+ also needs ported progs.

very few people had the original 92's, and the majority of them didn't upgrade when the plus came out. If many people use it, as you claim, then why don't they port programs? It's very easy to port from 89 to 92+.

:
:1) I didnt say many people use it, I said there are some (which if you want to get technical simply means more than one...)
:2) The 89 has a much smaller screen than the 92+, so games ported from the 89 to it dont look very good (IMO)
:3) There ARE _SOME_ people porting games for it, and I suggest to them to port from 92+ ROM 1.x to 92+ ROM 2.x
:4) I know that not too many 92+s were owned, but couldn't be that few because soemone had to make Fargo 1 & 2... (I've seen many pages about how to make asm programs such as fargo that were developed independantyly... seems like only one person went the whole way tho)

I know six people in my school with a 92+, myself included, and only four with an 89. When I bought my 92, I got a plus module for 20 bucks with it. Even if the 89 would have been out I still would have got a 92+. I like it better, full size keyboard and bigger screen. Ever try to type on an 89?

Typing on a TI-92+ isn't comfortable too. I type Text and Programs generally on PC and transfer it with the Link Cable. To Type letters for variables is on both calcs very easy.

I program mainly for the TI-92 w. Plus module. 89 support is for me something you get for free unless it's too much hazzle to shrink the display.

Right... same here... Most of the best programmers have 92+'s (I'm not saying that there are not any good 89 programmers). But the fact is that most people that already knew how to program for the 92 and then got a Plus Module have made many of the best programs for the 89. Plusshell and DoorsOS are the easiest examples.

Hey, I own a 92+ too, and it could blow whatever calc you have out of the water, so be careful what you say
