Kirk Meyer Releases Screen Shot Utility
Posted by Phil on 13 November 1999, 21:46 GMT

Kirk Meyer released TISShot today. This is the utility that we use to take the animated screenshots for ticalc.org. The application uses emulators such as Virtual TI to take screenshots.

In related news, he also released FACHK today. This utility checks the integrity of TI Calculator files while they're still on the computer. It will also report file type (ASM/BASIC), shell, and needed libraries.

I cant seem to get Asm studio 86 to work on my comp. it says "asmide86.exe file is linked to missing export MFC42.DLL:6491." any idea what this means?

That means one of your Windows files is missing, and you might need to reinstall the whole shebang

Put a copy of the DLL in the same folder as Asm Studio? I dunno, that might help (no sarcasm, cuz I really dont know) Try it if you havent already though...

Ok I had this exact problem. Your Mfc42.dll is version 5.0. Asm Studio needs version 6.0. Since this DLL is used a lot you need to exit windows and start in DOS. Goto you windows\system directory and type 'kill mfc42.dll' ( or is it del? ) Then once your done load windows by typing win and copy your new mfc42.dll into the windows\system directory. Hope I helped.

Yep, it happens to be DEL (or ERASE, if you feel like typing two characters more) ... and they tried to tell me to throw away my DOS manuals. Muahahah.

ticalc.org doesn't allow stuff like notes for programs and not everyone has VC++ 6.0 installed, people don't check the Asm Studio homepage for the correct version. The version that ticalc.org posted does NOT have the MFC DLL's. Go to the Asm Studio homepage and download the version with MFC DLL's:

On the contrary, an author can (and should) include a README inside the archive with that information, and we DO allow you to view text files inside archives. (And users should read READMEs on their ends when this isn't the case.)

Many people have had this problem apparently so I hope that they all are reading this! Follow these three steps (in order, one at a time) to troubleshoot (we're assuming you're using VTI).

1) set your calc to 1x mode, if that doesn't work...
2) remove the virtual keypad (lcd only)...
3) remove the skin.

it should DEFINITELY work if you do that. if it still doesn't, please be sure you have the newest version of VTI...

Re: Censorship

Hmmm..... this is a shock... ticalc has removed the thread in which we are venting our frustration at the comment board situation... Just because we violated rule 5 (ticalc has the right to remove any comment it wants), we get in big trouble... It was actually on the most recent news topic, seeing how it was a "read-only" article.

Now, question to the staff, where are we supposed to comment about the censorship if we can't reply to the news article about the results? The results page is so big that it takes forever to load (even on an ethernet).

The thread in here was deleted because the comments had nothing whatsoever to do with Kirk's programs.

If you have anything further to say about the comment boards -- and we have already held several public forums as well as a survey -- email us your comments, as stated in the latest news item. Post them here, under the survey, or under any other unrelated news item, and they will be deleted.

But I wasn't asking why the comment was deleted. I was asking where I was supposed to bring up the issue for the public to discuss. That's not violating that rule.

Also, good job Kirk. The program is really cool :)

ticalc.org doesn't want you to bring up this issue for public discussion, note the "read-only" status of the news item. :)

I don't know why I'm replying right here, but.. whatever...

This whole thing is kinda funny. You guys running this site have the correct idea with a poll, and accepting opinions, etc. I mean, no one *has* to come here, so it's sorta nice that you try to see what your regulars are thinking.

But what you're doing are just actions - I don't think anyone really knows what to do with the results. If 100% of the voters had voted for Total Anarchy, I don't believe ticalc.org would've switched to that. Besides, I think that would be a foolish choice.

If you guys are really sick of moderating the comment board, then it's your call alone as to whether to just shut it down or not.

...then again, I guess I could go complain on the IRC - I seem to be in violation of rules 1, 4, and probably 11. weeee. :P

That's right, they wouldn't go to anarchy. Notice again the removal of comments about the censorship. To those staff members who will argue that I am off-topic, the rule reads "Please be constructive and keep comment topics relevant to the article you are replying to." I am replying to the comment of Alien cow, which was on the same topic as I write here. Therefore, that guideline is not being broken. We are being censored only because we don't agree w/ ticalc's "perfect" views.
