The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening Released For 89
Posted by Nick on 7 November 1999, 04:41 GMT

Zelda: Link's AwakeningPhillip Ringsmuth just released a fantastic new game for the 89: The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. This version is an incomplete demo, but it features rather fast gameplay (certainly quite fast for a BASIC game), talking characters and phenomenally smooth animation. One downside: after ungrouped and sent to the calculator, it takes up about sixty-five kilobytes of RAM. At any rate, it's definitely worth downloading and checking out, even if you're a hardcore ASM person.

Nice job. But it would be better to get a news article about a FINISHED Zelda!

Basic rules! ASM rules! C sucks!

Oh come on basic is ok asm is good for a few thing but C rules.it is powerful and easy to learn.Basic is powerful but not enough.And Asm is the most powerfull but it is tedious to work with.I program Asm for the calcs because thats what they used if all of them used c I would be using C

Well, it seems to me that this game does not work properly.
When i run it, it gives me a "missing file" error, and then dies. Well, i wish the programmer would be more considerate about the amount of files he uses, because 850 files is extremely hard to maintain, espically if you don't have an official graphlink.

I know it's a ton of files, and I'm working on combining many of them. I might release another demo down the line, but this was just to let people see what I'm working on.

This looks pretty cool.

Does it have the same map layout and story as Link's Awakening for the Game Boy?

Yeah, it's (hopefully) going to be an exact copy of the gameboy game. Wish me luck :)

Don't all these games (Zelda, Mario, Tetris, etc.) raise copyright issues with the companies that created them, especially if you copy the exact levels or story?

Suggestions:
Make it automatically change folders!!
setFold() works w/i programs, too. . .
Make an install program & a quit prgm that deletes variables.

If getconfg()[the memory constraints]<necessary mem Then
Text "Not enough memory!"
Return
EndIf

Define zelda()=Prgm
.
.
.
EndPrgm

Archive zelda

Define suchandsuch(x,y,etc)=Prgm
.
.
.
EndPrgm

Archive suchandsuch

[[1,6,8][5,7,3]->matrixname

so on and so forth, something like that

That's what I'm doing for my upcoming Pokégame.

I've got some good ideas like that buzzing around in my head somewhere. I'll be re-doing a lot of the internal workings of zelda over the coming months, and I might release another demo sometime down the line. Who knows.
