ticalc.org Updates
Posted by Ryan on 1 April 2013, 15:43 GMT

You may have noticed over the past few weeks that there have been issues on the site with transfer speed and server lag. For the past month or so, we have been working diligently on the backend of the site to make several improvements, optimizations, and feature additions.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of the ticalc.org staff, we are happy to announce that ticalc.org is in the last stages of rolling out a large site-wide overhaul. A number of features will be added to improve both the usability and visibility of the site, including a number of Web 2.0 features such as:

  • Website "Themes" for personalized user experiences
  • Facebook "Like" buttons for sharing your favorite programs
  • Optional embedded Twitter feeds of your favorite authors for greater social visibility
  • Flash version of the upload portal for increased security
  • A range of Java embeds for improved user experience
  • AJAX all up in this mo'
You can expect to see these features slowly cropping up over the next few weeks as we finish working out the kinks on our side. We hope that you enjoy the upcoming ticalc.org experience!

Ooh, I can't wait for these updates! I especially like the social media integration. Make sure to include a "share" button as well as a like button on all programs so we can tell all our friends!

Ooh, I like the sound of JAVA.

Actually I would also completely take away the Ticalc.org reply system and replace it with a facebook reply system. I mean, who hasn't got Facebook?

Oh yes, great idea. Also, the ability to use Facebook to comment on programs and user's profiles would be awesome :)

Seeing as how we don't want to put all of our eggs in one basket, we'll probably be replacing the comment system with DISQUS rather than Facebook.

I am not on Facebook, nor on any social network. Suppressing ticalc comments will mute me then.

"I mean, who hasn't got Facebook?"

Me, and I have no desire to get one.

That said, I assume this is all ticalc.org's April Fool's Day joke for this year anyway.

And, yeah, there's that red "fake news" outline indicator now.

These are exactly the features that ticalc.org has been missing! Maybe you could also add a section where we can upload image memes about graphing calculators and the community.

Could you please integrate the file archive with vti or ti-emu? That'd be pretty boss and save me a lot of time.

There's also the web-based emulator, but it doesn't support the ti89 :(

Actually, if I get time I'm going to provide a way for jsTIfied to directly load 83+/84+ files from the Cemetech archives; hopefully I can convince the ticalc.org staff to connect their files. ;)

Someone should add the TI-84+ C SE to the "Calculators" page.

Because it was (sadly) an April Fools' joke. If only we were getting AJAX all up in this mo'.

I like how ticalc.org is one of the last sites on the web NOT yet infected by that Web 2.0 nonsense. So IMHO it is a good thing that this announcement is only a joke.

Haha, nice one! It took me a while to see it though... No, the real news is that the lag and server outages were because you were moving all of the TICalc.org website over to the new TI84 Color edition and you guys were having issues with the suckishness of the basic and had to recode the entire thing in assembly before finally just giving up and choosing to move back to the old server! :P lol, that would have been funny given the times!
