TI-Nspire OS 3.0.2 Released
Posted by Ryan on 8 June 2011, 23:43 GMT
Here is some past news that you may have missed.
As you may have heard, TI recently released OS 3.0.2 for the TI-Nspire and TI-Nspire CAS platforms. You have no doubt read somewhere that this follows in the wake of reported issues of OS 3.0.1 occasionally bricking some individual's calculators.
As a word of warning, it has been reported that TNOC, software designed to remove the Boot2 image from upgrade files (thus allowing for OS downgrades), is not a feasible fix with OS 3.0.2. What this means is that at this time, upgrading to OS 3.0.2 means that you will not be able to revert to older OS versions.
It was originally reported that TI had blocked the discovered ability to execute Lua scripts in OS 3.0.2. However, recent developments suggest that Lua will remain a viable programming route in the future on the TI-Nspire platforms.

It remains, however, useful to strip with TNOC the boot2 upgrade contained in the 3.0.2 TNO/TNC (perhaps this should be mentioned in the news article ?).
Indeed, OS 3.0.2 works just fine with boot2 1.4.1571, and boot2 3.x has been strengthened against attacks.
TI has indeed made OS 3.0.2 unable to run third-party Lua programs created by third-party generators, suitable for OS 3.0.1, by requiring 0D compression+encryption for all parts of the file, and/or by validating the ZIP archive more strongly.
At the time of this writing, in order to become usable by OS 3.0.2, files created by third-party generators need to be:
* either opened and re-saved in OS 3.0.1 (either on the calculator or in TINCS);
* or re-generated using the official generator + TINCS.
