Find an Oasis in Doors CS 7.0
Posted by Nikky on 27 August 2010, 06:04 GMT
Christopher "Kerm Martian" Mitchell has recently released Doors CS 7.0 for the TI-83+ and TI-84+ family of calculators. The latest version of his Doors CS shell represents the first serious competitor to the venerable MirageOS. Beginning its life as a "crude BASIC shell," Doors CS has grown to a full-featured ASM shell that supports MirageOS, ION, and Doors CS programs. Additionally, support for popular libraries such as XLib, Celtic III, and partial Omnicalc will assist developers and end-users alike. Mitchell has released a SDK to coincide with the release of Doors CS 7. A full feature list can be found on the DCS wiki.

Although it took me a dozen of minute to get used to the mouse controls, it didn't take long afterward for this to become my favorite shell. The main reason why is because it packs all that stuff into one thing and I like how it can run stuff from home screen, archived, like Noshell and CalcUtil, and comes with xLIB/Celtic/Omnicalc and more BASIC libs. The only downside there could be is the file size, which could hinder 83+ users with filled archive or who are developing large games, but otherwise it's excellent.
Doors has come a long way since Doors XP. I liked it since 6.2, but I still kinda prefered Mirage.
Anyway good job Kerm taking Doors to a competitive level. I think this version deserves a feature.

This is a wonderful shell, and I'm glad it's been featured. For those who think, "I have Mirage, why should I switch?", DoorsCS7 has every feature Mirage has and more. Doors is as good as it gets for a calculator shell, so give it a try. Great job Kerm!

To be honest, it had everything it needed to compete starting with Mirage from version 6 and onwards. The version 7 features put it above and beyond.

Ha, Mirage has a lot less features, it tends to crash, and it won't remember some of my programs
DCS forever!

Wow, I never thought anything could ever even stand up to mirageOS! This is pretty nice, much better. As an asm/axe designer, this is really helpful, as my asm programs can now be used in DoorsCS 7 while still using mirageOS subroutines! now that is pretty cool.
