My browser (Safari 4) claims that the archives are forbidden.

You don't have permission to access /archives/ on this server."

I can navigate all sorts of things inside the archives if I get there another way, but I can't click on the bar on the main screen. Inability to access the archives might be a problem worth fixing.

Other than that, though, the site runs really fast.

How do you get in "another way"?

It's not only on Safari, but on IE8 and Firefox 3.6. It weems that the problem has nothing to do with the browser. Perhaps a faulty link?

The new host is much faster than the old. However, almost all of our content is static anyway. So I expect it will be a wash. :)

That's actually a 500 and not a 404 ;) Either way, it's been fixed now, thanks for reporting.

Nah, we only use 81's and 85's. (the 82's burned out in testing)

Congrats on the move! How long has the site run on the "old" hardware? Ever since the beginning, right?
On a related note, I think hardware.html (see linked web page) is in need of some editing. :)

Since about 2003 (see link). Before then, they were running on even older hardware, if you can believe that. :-)

I still remember that move. The download stats froze during several months and reviews went back up half a year later if I remember.

I also remember back when archives could be accessed via FTP... or the mailing lists being public...

Site was quite fast back then, though. It just started running a bit slower a few years later.

Now it's blazing fast.

It might be good to update the link attached to this post at one point. :)

At one point I definitely saw pictures of the old servers happily ensconced in their racks. Will we get pictures of the new server(s)?

Unfortunately, there will be no pictures of the new machine. It's in a datacenter where access is very restricted.
