EFF Fights Back Against TI's DMCA Notices
Posted by Michael on 13 October 2009, 18:40 GMT
The EFF, which is now representing Brandon Wilson and Astrid Smith in their OS signing key saga, has issued a press release warning TI to stop harassing us over the posting of these keys. In conjunction with the press release, the EFF has sent a letter to TI informing them that the keys will be reposted on October 26 and explaining why the posting of the keys does not violate the DMCA.
I encourage everyone not involved in the case to be more than a mere bystander and consider donating to the EFF so that their pro bono legal work can continue to defend our rights.
Update: News stories regarding this are now running on Slashdot, CNET, Boing Boing, and Ars Technica, among others.

When I get home I'll make a donation.
I was hoping something good would come out of that slashdot article.

Should October 26 or July 29 be set as the national holiday?
No, seriously. I'm glad that we have the eff on our side!

It's really good to see this taking off. We need more organizations like the EFF and a lot more support for them to add some balance in a place whose legal system seems to have been designed to select winners based on funding and lawyers rather than actual justice.

Yay...doesn't affect me (I don't program calcs anymore) but I still want to see a good outcome for the programming and modding community...
I'm curious what TI will try to fight back with...lawyers are great at coming up with loopholes on both sides...
