Today I'm scratching my head over why there are so many “multiple-choice-test-guessing” programs. Has the world come to the point where people can't even *guess* at something without using a calculator? :-P

Wow that's even worse then number guessing programs.

Or Yu-Gi-Oh life point counters. I never saw the point of this when some people just uses a pencil/eraser/paper sheet.

I made one of those once; more fun to make than to use. ^^

Don't forget Windows “OS” programs and other shells. :-)

Also, does anyone know what the deal is with those BASIC “anti-virus” programs? What exactly do they do? I don't see how an “anti-virus” program can exist for a platform that doesn't effectively host viruses in the first place.

well imho the BASIC OSes aren't as bad as Yugioh life counters, because in some ways they can still be useful, despite taking so much RAM and being obsoleted by Mirage/Doors, but I agree with the anti-viruses. To me they are just fake programs you put on your calc then at school you goes "HEY LOOK I GOT NORTON ON MY CALC I'M SO AWESOME". These programs should be put in a directory that isn't ranked, like Omnicalc fonts and animations

Well, you have to admit those anti-virus programs are pretty darn good: never had a false positive and no false negatives either, that's impressive!

Seriously though, it /should/ be possible to create a virus. I think I've got some notes on a proof-of-concept still laying around somewhere. Not sure about the other calcs, but for the 83, you've got IM2 (to stealthily run your virus) and silent linking (to send it to another calc and to active it). The 83+ even adds a link hook (so you know if there's a connected calc to infect) and an RTC (so you can count down to doing something nasty :p ).
So yeah, it should be possible. But I'm pretty sure that none of the people with the required skills will make anti-virus actually needed on calculators.

What?! I love quadratic solvers! I'm working on collecting the whole set. On a side note, why calculator not let me download any more ... something about memory, oh well.
