MirageOS 1.3 Beta Released
Posted by Michael on 16 April 2008, 03:14 GMT

After years of inactivity, MirageOS is finally getting a long-awaited update! Brandon Wilson has taken over the project and has released version 1.3b9, a public beta. New features include built-in support for program compression, USB linking, and the ability to run programs Noshell-style from the homescreen. This version also fixes the garbled screen problems which occured on some TI-83 Pluses with defective hardware.

Brandon asks that users e-mail him with bug reports and suggestions for additional features.

This is excellent news, but that rickroll is rather juvenile.

A Rickroll? Come on. I was so excited reading this, and now I can't download the file because of a Rickroll? I hope this news is really true, and not some sort of two-week-late April Fool's joke....this site wasn't hacked, was it?

It is true, if you press "Stop" fast enough you can prevent the page from redirecting. I hope they remove that rickroll...

Here I though Rickrolls were something I'd never face, but it got to me. I heard about those on G4TV. Isn't this fake news? The border is red.

I wouldn't say it's completely dead - there are still signs of life around the Internet with certain websites that still have people visiting.

I would say it's not as active as it once was. I imagine many of the people have simply moved on to other things and others have yet to come and keep it going.

Perhaps it's just a low and things will pick up at a later date.

Imho it's not completly dead. From summer 2001 to Spring 2002 this happened too. Only one program feature in that whole time. Afterward it picked up again and continued like this until late 2006.

I think part of the problem right now is that people tend to prefer IRC to forums nowadays and in the main calc talk channel some people aren't always respectful to new comers and assume they will catch as fast as them has some elitist people with a IQ above 200 who assume every single new comers will learn as fast as them so when they ask help and don't learn fast enough they become rude to those newbies.

Those newbies are the future of the TI community and they are being turned away.

yeah, and I got involved with calculators/computers/programming a little too late. There was a calculator craze in 2004, when the ti-84 came out

I dunno if this is a joke, but there is a reference to the 1.3 version on detached solutions...
But it seems the page hasn't been modified since 2004...
I hope it's a real news!! =D

Because news is a little slow right now and I wanted to have some fun with a fake news article. The real news is that MirageOS 1.3 is actually under development. One day this article will be real.

Relax and laugh :)

You should at least mark the news as fake. Making fun of your visitors isn't a way to attract more people to TI calculators.
