Magnus Dies; ticalc.org in Trouble
Posted by Michael on 1 April 2008, 17:45 GMT

It is with great pain that we are forced to announce the death of our beloved editor-in-chief, Magnus Hagander. Magnus' skill at computer administration, love of calculators, and Swedish humor will be missed. During a sailing trip last month in the North Sea, Magnus was fishing when he was attacked and eaten by a North Sea shark. His body has not and probably will never be found. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

We must also sadly announce that since Magnus was responsible for server administration and in fact oversaw the physical location of the ticalc.org server and its hosting facility, we have no way to recover the server nor do we have the permissions to pay the ticalc.org hosting bill. On April 30, the network bandwidth will be disconnected and we will be unable to continue ticalc.org. We are currently researching ways to get all of the archives and pages off of the server and attempt to find another server and hosting in another location. We will keep you updated on the progress.

Update: As the red border indicates, this was a fake news article. Please do not e-mail us offering to host the website or copy files.

Yeah, this really isn't funny. What's next, "the mayor of new york died in a fiery car accident"?

tbe probability that this isn't an April fools joke is slim at best. The probability of getting eaten by a shark while on a fishing trip is also too slim too be true.
see url for more.

I agree.. Joking about someone's death is completely inappropriate - even if they give you permission.

It should have been "Magnus eaten by killer TI-86" or something like that.

What is wrong with joking about someone's death if you have the permission of the party in question? I very nearly wrote that I died on the whiteboard by my door today, & that was before I saw this article, but I did not want any trouble from the residence hall staff.

Plus, everyone expects (or at least should expect) nonsense today.

It can scare and affect the actions of those believe that the person actually died. I know most people probably wouldn't fall for this particular joke, but in general it probably isn't a good idea.

Have you read Romeo and Juliet?

That entire story was a romantic fabrication and should
not be used to judge the responses of real people.

Besides, it wasn't even worth reading in the first place.
No offense.

It's not Coder Sex Change, it's CODERSEXCHANGE. And of course, we would love to invite Ticalc to join our group.

It's really quite a delightful thing we're proud to announce. Maybe it would help take the burden off the remaining ticalc administrators.

Alerts are annoying. One *might* be okay, if there was a good reason for it, but not that many.

There are so many things wrong with your site. The site as a whole screams ignorance, n00bishness, and the maturity of a 12 year old. After reading the homepage (which is invisible to colorblind readers btw), I still don't know what your purpose is.

I could continue ranting, but I think you get the point.
