Changes to the File Upload Form
Posted by Michael on 31 December 2007, 18:14 GMT
We have modified the file upload form with the addition of a JavaScript-driven calculator model option. When uploading files, authors now first select the category that their file belongs in (TI-82, Unix, Informational texts, etc.) and the directory list will filter automatically to show only the relevant directories. We hope this will make uploads easier by shortening the very long list, as well as prevent miscategorized uploads (some people tend to stop scrolling down when they see "TI-83" when uploading TI-83 Plus files).
If JavaScript is disabled, the file upload form will continue to function as it always has, just without any filtering.

Is it why there was a long delay before archives started being updated again on a regular basis? THis is a nice feature, I hope that at least people use common sense and select the TI-83+ option right below the TI-83 one from now on.
Suggestion: I think a TI-84+ option (same filtering than 83+) should be added, because apparently some people aren't aware that TI-83+ programs are compatible with the TI-84+. Else you could rename the current TI-83 Plus option to TI-83+/TI-84+.

Well, if we had a "TI-84 Plus" directory, we figured that people would come to ticalc.org, look in that directory, and go "oh my, there aren't any files!" It's probably better to have the occasional 83+ user download an 84+ file than the 84+ user having to look in two separate directories.
Now yes, yes, we should support files being in multiple directories, and all sorts of fun tricks, but currently we don't. :-)

This form inspired me to submit IAMBEOWULF 1.6. Thanks for the effort.

This helps, I've had problems with this in the past when I uploaded my RPG so this should make it easier to update it.

It seems pretty useful; I always hated scrolling through the long list of files...
Also, some of the categories need to more consistent, but I'm glad to see the updates coming in!

Good job on the javascript filtering.. I would actually like to see more filtering, though. As expressed earlier, the TI-83+ section needs to include 84+. Also, After one selects the calculator type - though the list is definitely shorter now - it would be great to have an option to choose TYPE of program.. BASIC, Assembly, Flash, etc.

When can we get the ability to upload to Multiple Categories? ASM programs for the TI-82 through TI-84+ are basically the same, especially if compiled with a certain include file. Having separate listings for identical programs is really really stupid.
