TI-Nspire isn't released yet, so why do they release the OS and docs?

Unfortuniately, while Wikipedia is usually right, it tends to be wrong a lot too...

So the media would have you believe. Actually I find Wikipedia is usually quite accurate. The inaccuracy is the exception rather than the rule... usually because people fix such inaccuracies when they spot them. Aand of course you never hear about the thousands of accurate articles, that'd make for boring news.

That's the most contradictory statement I've heard all day!

Anyways, wikipedia articles are corrected extremely quickly, and wikipedia has a system in place which protects against "vandalism" (though admittedly this is easy to overcome). Still, wikipedia is great for a genral idea about something, providing many links to related sites... Almost like a specialized google search....

Funniest vandalism I've seen on Wikipedia:

Commenting on the Holy Roman Empire, someone had said "It wasn't Holy, it wasn't Roman, and it wasn't and Empire. LIES! ALL LIES I TELL YOU!".

Which is entirely the truth.

I don't know...I saw some pages about ping packets that were totally blank; I also found one about Star Trek Enterprise-D that said maximum speed was Warp 13 (Warp 10 is the theoretical, unattainable maximum)

If something is completely gone or you don't know what it's supposed to be, it's hard to fix.

The NCC-1701 Enterprise did go Warp 13 (on the old scale) in at least one episode. Warp 10 is the asymptotic maximum on the new scale.

(Ooops, forgot something.)

Granted, that is the 1701, not the 1701-D. Perhaps the person was thinking about the wrong ship. =)

Prices!:
If you click the link provided, you'll see that one online calculator retailer lists....

TI-Nspire... 135€ = USD$186
TI-Nspire CAS... 180€ = USD$248

Not too bad considering all that it does...

I didn't see anything about programming on the manual. : (
but, it looks really cool, pretty advanced graphics, at least by my standards. (look at the screen shots in the guide books)

If you want to help getting machine code (compiled C, assembly etc.) to run on that machine, join us at #inspired (Independent NSPIRE Developers) on irc.freequest.net. (Please set your IRC client's charset to UTF-8.)

A web chat CGI is available at:
http://tigcc.ticalc.org/ webchatinspired.html

But be warned that we have nothing yet, and it appears the OS Flash updates are encrypted, so if you just want a machine to run programs on, don't buy an Nspire or Nspire CAS now! There's also a protection against downgrading the OS.

What country's dollar? Certainly not the USD, as it's much closer to US$183 than US$138.

What's the .tnc extension and how do you use the OS???

.tnc and .tno are new file formats they are using for the OS. Currently there's not much you can do with them other than look at them and find all the pretty strings.

I posted a bit more info that we (Brandon Wilson, Patrick Davidson, myself, and a few other random people in #tcpa whose names escape me at the moment) figured out in the relevant thread at CalcG <http://calcg.org/ cgi-bin/forum.cgi?t=8056> (or link above).

So how long until someone disassembles the OS and we see what it does? If I have time I'd like to give it a shot myself.
