TI-89 Titanium Hardware Version 4 Released
Posted by Michael on 3 May 2006, 01:32 GMT

[HW4 About Screen]Olivier Armand reports that new TI-89 Titanium calculators have hardware version 4, now the latest hardware revision. There is a discussion (in French) about this. So far, it has been determined that HW4 has a higher CPU speed, perhaps 16 MHz. Kevin Kofler has already released a new version of HW3Patch which is compatible with HW4.

Olivier also recently released TI-Vibe which is a music player for 68k calculators, similar to Real Sound for the 83+ series.

Update: Romain Liévin and Kevin Kofler have released a new version 2.08 of TiEmu, which adds support for HW4. You can download TiEmu for Windows and UNIX.

Now I have to choose this summer whether to get one of these or a TI-Nspire.

Does HW4Patch work on everything, or just certain games. I really want to play the super mario quest games, but i don't know if they will work or not.

the HW Patch dosn't patch the games just the AMS. archive everything before you try the games so that if you crash the calc you won't loose anything.

Since I'm a noob, does anyone know how the speed of the updated Ti-89 Titanium compares to the Gameboy Color :o... If anyone has ever used bench marks on the gameboy color...

I would bet that a game boy color is much faster then any TI calculator.

The speed of the new HW4 Ti is superior from the gameboy color. Even the HW2 had superior clock.
Gameboy color runs at 9mhz on a z80 processor.
With that increase in speed maybe the gameboy emulator for TI may games even better now. Let's see...

I wish that the converter worked on mac. I will have to boot GuestPC every time I want to convert a ROM.

Does the converter program have a UI or is it commandline? If the latter, I can simply recompile it.

You are so right, I can't believe I didn't think about this before! It's really great news concerning the GB emulation.

SMQ should work. It requires PreOs though.

Its to bad that the Ti-89 doesn't have a graphics accelerator like the Gameboy Color, etc...

I'm not sure why, but i'm really frustrated. My TI-89T only has 48K of RAM!! It's supposed to 188K!! I did an archive AND Ram reset, Absolutely nothing exept 4 flash apps!! I don't know what happened, seemed to work before I tried Zelda89 with PreOS. I only realized it when SMQ wouldn't work, Ithought it was because it was archived, so i unarchived it, but didn't have enough memory. SMQ worked unarchived. HELP

Don't use the resets from the MEM screen, press 2nd+left+right+ON simultaneously. Keeps your archive and FlashApps intact, but REALLY resets the RAM. The MEM stuff only deletes files.

too late, already did it. oh well, at least it worked!! Oh, but SMQ will only detect the level that came with it, not any others..

I don't think that worked, but I didn't try very hard. I'll try again now.

What do you mean, the fourth line down on the screenshot says "hardware version 4.00".

I think he's just trying to sound like he knows what he's doing, and doesn't know that there is a difference between the AMS and HW. He's looking at the AMS version.
