TI-83 Plus OS 1.19
Posted by Michael on 9 February 2006, 03:17 GMT

Due to the incessant clamoring for a news article despite the fact that we still don't know what it changes or fixes, I wish to announce that TI has released version 1.19 of the TI-83 Plus OS. The download page still indicates 1.18 but the actual OS file is 1.19.

One thing I noticed is that the TI83+ flash debugger used to have a "load operating system" command. And the OS you loaded was a hex file - direct output from ZDK.

Any idea when they removed it, or how to load OS 1.19 into the later versions?

I have to admit I don't know why they removed it.. makes things slightly unintuitive. But if I'm not mistaken (has been a while since I used the debugger) you send the OS just like you would an APP.. in fact, any valid .hex file which does not have a proper APP header gets loaded as an OS ....

I wonder if it fixes some of calcs that had bad LCD Drivers, so to speak. Noticable while running MirageOS and the screen glitches. ;-P

actually, I've seen some problems with Super Mario v2.0 and the TI-84: the pixels are shifted vertically as one moves across the screen from left to right.

This means that on the leftmost column, all the pixels were in the right places. On the right side, the top 10 or so pixels were moved to the bottom of the screen.

Hey yeah this happens to me everytime I run Mario 2.0 or Connect 4, but not my friends... Any one know how to fix it?

Download James Montelongo's "LCD Fix" (see link above). It corrects the driver setting and eliminates the problem. Note that you will have to run the program every time your RAM is reset.

PuzzPack does not properly with 1.19. When you exit, the Ram resets. Or, the ram is set at 0, so nothing works, and you must manually reset the ram.

This is technically a bug in PuzzPack, though the question of which, if any, of the monitor vectors should be called when exiting isn't obvious at all... and then, of course, the very idea of monitor vectors is barely documented.

See the link for a quick fix, anyway.

You have an odd definition of "quick." :-)

Could someone supply a link to download a fixed version of Puzzpack?

Can Equation Editing Application (EEA) be run with OS 1.19?

reload the OS by pulling out a battery, holding [DEL] and putting back the battery. Then it should say "Please load calc software" or something similar. then you quickly start the OS download (update)

MAN THANK YOU!!! i have been without a calulator for about 2 months now, because i tried to update my calculators OS when it said something about my batteries being low, and that a change of batteries is recomended. So then it turned off and i turned it back on and it said something about RAM cleared so i pressed enter then it went to this weird thing with nothing but an input thingy and didnt do anything. so i seriously thank you for posting this comment, it saved my calculator, and my math grade ^_^ :P

When I try to dowlload EEA to my calc, it tells me that "the connected TI device's memory is full", although I have enough memory. Is it OS 1.19?

Seems to work with me. I had 20 KB free archive, and it fits nicely in 16KB archive.

If you have over 16KB archive free and it won't send, you may (somehow) not have a fully free flash page. See page 18-18 in your 83+ manual for an explanation and possible fixes. If you can't find your manual and don't like TI's PDFs, I'm sure some of the nice people here that know far more than is healthy about the hardware will explain in exacting detail how and why ROM pages work.

But when I run it, it says that I need >= 1.13 to run it. So no luck on actual usage, so stick with 1.18 if you need it.

It is my calculator that doesn't work very well since I dowloaded a few ASM programs.

EEA didn't work with OS 1.18, it could only be run with 1.13. But nobody knows, perhaps a miracle?
