TI-83 Plus BASIC Math Subdirectories
Posted by Michael on 7 February 2006, 05:35 GMT

In order to better organize our archives, we have added some subfolders to the TI-83 Plus BASIC Math Programs directory. We have created algebra, calculus, geometry, and trigonometry folders. There is also now a special folder for those quintessential BASIC programs, quadratic solvers. Please make sure you upload your mathematics programs to the proper folder. General/multipurpose math programs and those in topics not covered by a subfolder will remain in the general math folder.

Very nice! :)

Will all BASIC sections eventually be like this?

I don't plan on doing this to 83+ BASIC CBR Programs (see link)

lol, obviously... :D

Next question(s):

Will you guys be accepting any volunteers for the gaming section, or any of the other sections? Will these changes also be made on the other calc platforms after the 83+ is complete?

I don't think we're going to accept any volunteers as far as actually moving the files around, but what you _can_ do right now is suggest how BASIC Games should be subdivided (there is an ongoing discussion above, so if you have ideas participate in that!)

Thank you! thankyou thank you thank you! To organize so many files...I am impressed and eternally grateful!

and I love how you made an entire folder for quadratic solvers.

It only seemed appropriate. After all, I believe I heard once that somebody was unable to find a quadratic solver on ticalc.org, so we wanted to make sure they are easy to find!

I almost laughed out loud at that...how could someone NOT find a quadratic solver???

does it means people can start submiting quadratic solvers again (In the right directory)?

A grayscale quadratic solver by Kevin Ouellet would be fantastic!

Well, I have always stressed creativity when it comes to accepting files. I think it's hard for me to deny that a grayscale guessing game is definitely creative...

The community is alive again! I knew all it would take is a project. I'm hearing triumphal music… oh, oops, that's my iPod.

But it is nice to see everyone interested and helping in something. For awhile there, ticalc.org seemed to be in hibernation.

An effective way for multiple topic programs is to put them in both folders. For instance, a Geometry, Algebra program would be put into both Geometry and Algebra, but a program that does some miscellaneous functions would be put in the general math directory.

This can be currently done with links. However, I didn't want to start linking everything since I didn't feel like sending out 100 e-mails explaining to people what the heck linked files are.

I see, but do you have to explain linked files?

Probably. Given that most people don't even know about links, it'd get confusing quick with a bunch of "what happened to some of my files" questions.

just send out 100 emails that say "come back when you understand what a linked file is"
