2005 POTY Results
Posted by Michael on 24 January 2006, 15:55 GMT

The long-awaited results of the 2005 Program of the Year competition are finally here! This year the winners were very surprising. You might call 2005 the "Year of the Emulator." For the results, view our POTY Winners page. As always, the results on the surveys are now visible. Congratulations to all 2005 featured programs and their authors!

Well, for Emu8x it is really impossible to get an animated screenshot. I can compile a debug version that runs under the TI Flash Debugger, but it is extremely slow and nonresponsive until you hit a key a million times (because the debuggers do not simulate the crystal timers).

As for gb68k, I don't have any gameboy ROMs, and even with Jon's assistance, we were unable to get one working :(

You could have asked for permission to use ours (see http://www.calcgames.org/ cgi-bin/news/news.cgi?ID=170), or to have me make a better one... Yeah, I'm not with you guys, but you know I got it working.

Of course, you could have used PindurTI to get emu8x screenshots, even if you don't like the name.

No, because it only supports the plain 83+ at the moment, and none of those with the extra RAM needed for this program.

As for gb68k: Sqrxz for the Game Boy (and GBC, but it also works on the regular Game Boy and on gb68k) is freeware and it's downloadable from http://icarus.ticalc.org . Ever checked your own hosted sites? ;-)

I see that "I have no opinion" came in seccond in the 68k voting, it would have been funny to see it win

It seems rather pathetic (or rather, the voters seem apathetic) that in one semifinal, "I have no opinion" tied for first, in the other, it won and that in the final, it came in second.

I wonder if the people who voted for "I have no opinion" would truly not have voted in the poll had the option not been present.

I just looked at all of the results and it seems that "I have no opinion" came in first or second in every survey but the tie breaker for the 83/83+/84+. I wonder if the link idea would have helped.

Then no wonder. It's sort of hard to win if you don't get any programs featured.
