TI Announces GraphiTI Winners
Posted by Michael on 26 October 2005, 20:57 GMT

TI's GraphiTI contest, which we previously announced, has ended. The winner was Alysandra Ganem from Michigan, with a variation upon the existing "Blue Fractal" GraphiTI design. You can view the state finalists as well.

Louisiana's was distinctly unoriginal, but it was obvious they spent quite a bit of time on it.

Yeah, I tried to make one like that, but that one is much better.

I know, I would at least have a little more sympathy for the winner, but it was built on an existing background, and the text wasn't even written well!!! It's messy, hard to read, and looks like a 20-second job (if not less).

We shouldn't be surprised...

And we shouldn't mock the winner, either. It's obvious she spent a full five minutes of her time working on that entry.

I actually had an idea of writing a program that would take an arbitrary bitmap and send all the proper mouse clicks / color selections over to the flash stuff so you could render any image you want (it could use the opacity settings to mix any color you wanted, perhaps)

Now THAT would have been fun.

A five minute job nets $1000....

What a great return on her investment...
(if I could do that all the time, paying for college would be a piece of cake.....)

Heck, if we could all do that, everyone would be multi-billionaires.

Like Hungary in WWII: something on the order of six billion percent inflation.

TI probably has just done exactly the opposite of what that contest was supposed to do (advertise and make TI more popular). How did that person win with such a horrible design (obviously everyone else is thinking that too)?

At least they're not judging the essay contest that way, so we still have hope.

It's really easy.
TI used a cookie (a little tidbit of information kept by the browser, for those who don't know) with the date when you vote. If you try to vote again, it reads the cookie and checks the date. For most things, this is fine, but for a contest this is stupid.
All it takes is a HTTP request with the right POST data to the CGI script responsible for tallying votes and you can vote as many times as you want. Hell, you can just disable cookies and vote to your heart's content!
This whole thing is a lame joke.

another thing is the cookies are stored on YOUR HD which is a place that you have limitless access to so it is a poor place to use.
