Ticalc.org should make a programming competition theselves. I think that more people would participate because it is a bigger site. More contests=better.

ticalc doesn't have much in the way of prizes. I kind of realized that during last summer's screenshotting project.

in a way just having maybe a link to your site from the ticalc.org homepage (with its page rank of 6) in the news article is pritty good, i'd have that over most any t-shirt, maybe there could be another modual thing on the right which could have links to like the top 3 winners sites, just an idea, but i'd sure enter it

What if Ticalc charged a nominal entry fee? The combined gross could be applied toward a prize. A cool prize might get more authors participation. The competition would force better products. Not to mention, non-coders could make special donations to encourage author participation.

The TI community is the ultimate winner. Hence... a win-win situation.

The idea of a fee, no matter how small, might prevent many people from participating.

Maybe TI can sponsor 3rd party organisations? =)

What about the ticalc.org shop??? You could always give out free mugs, t-shirts, or thongs with a staff member's face on it as prizes.

Thongs with pictures of staff members on them... and the sort of people who would buy and wear them... demented fanboys in Ticalc thongs... GAH!! Now I have that image stuck in my head! UGH! Get it out! *grabs pen and stabs out eyes* }XO>

More contests is better, but they have to be evenly spaced out.

Plus ti used to run app comps a few years ago, maybe they will ressurect that?

Is this competition only for TI-83 and TI-83 Plus?

I guess it time to whip out my secret 86 project. Hint: 3D grayscale in a cartoon lab.

Unless you are planning on porting it to the 83/83+, I wouldn't bother.

Son of a $*#@%... I just read the rulz...Oh well, the 83+ screen is too small and doesn't have good greyscale do to a port accessed LCD instead of bitmapped graphics.

Is the MPC only for the z80 calcs ?

It is only open to programs that run on both the 83 and 83+, be it in BASIC or ASM.

BASIC programs can be for the 83 or the 83+ but they don't have to be for both and it doesn't matter if it's not compatible with the 84+ (as maxcoderz is a 83/83+ programming group)

Well, as long as you don't use the Archive or Asm( commands in a BASIC program made on an 83+, it should be just fine running on an 83.

On the site they mention the BASIC and ASM winners competing...it makes me wonder if they'd allow entries with MLC. I know it's only for the 86 right now, but the developers have talked about how it will work on any calc. I've seen some nice screenshots of games...for an on-calc editor it's really good. Maybe in future contests it will be an issue. What do you think?

yeah it would be cool. A TI-83+ version of MLC is currently under developpement and a Casio AFX is coming too and what I like of it is that you can use the TI-BASIC editor to edit your programs and it runs almost as fast as ASM.

Yeah, that's why I mention it. It looks like a really nice language. I can't wait for it to be available for all calcs. I like programming, but don't really because the only time I have that I could program I don't have a computer around, but I'm limited by BASIC.

Yes, it would certainly be cool if they allowed MLC (though I'm already at work on a Basic entry.)
