TI Connect v1.6 Released
Posted by Michael on 24 January 2005, 03:35 GMT

TI has finally released version 1.6 of their TI Connect linking software. Most of the changes appear to be nonvisible to the user. Some notable idiosyncrasies remain, such as the warning that firewalls may interfere with linking.

Those of you with a 84+/84+ SE will also want to download the newly released v2.30 operating system.

Still no program editing capabilities.. ah well, I don't like TI-BASIC anyways. TIGCC is much better..

Yeah what is up with that? You would think they would have program editors in there...I can't see any reason why they would take that out.

Does anyone know what the "AUTOEXEC.NT" file is? I need it to run my TI-Graphlink program to edit programs on my computer. It says when I try to run it that the file is missing or corrupted, and I have no idea how to fix it... Please help me! I really need to be able to edit these programs...

I would just redownload GraphLink, unless you have the disk.

That won't work. The installer .exe won't work either! For some reason most TI programs access some DOS starter and the problem described above is pretty common.

Some TI Connect 1.5 betas had a program editor. I'm not sure why they don't release it in the official versions.

I use the program editor that came with my 84+ SE. It is really handy. I update TI Connect only to find out that there was no program editor, so i just reinstalled the beta version. I don't see why they took it out. I'm not even going to bother updating TI Connnect because the last update wouldn't let me send stuff to my calculator and the 1.5b works fine most of the time. I don't know why they took it out of the official versions. Beats me.

I had this same problem for about 3 months before I decided to actually fix it. It was a real pain becasue for about the same amount of tim I had to reboot in win 98 to run any TI related program. Here is how I fixed it:

1. Go to C:/WINNT/repair/
2. Either right click on the "autoecex.nt" file and click "repair" or copy it to this directory: C:/WINNT/system32/

If you don't have the autoecex.nt file in your repair folder email me and I will help ya out.

If you were programming in Basic, yeah, it ain't that bad. But i can program a heck of a lot faster when i type it on the computer. I haven't really gotten used to the layout of the letters on the calculator. I dont hardly ever program oncalc. If you were doing ASM, i could never program in ASM oncalc. that would be too slow going for me.

Yes.. true. I have been down to that, too because (Sadly...), TASM uses the same file to assemble programs for my calculator... I haven't been able to write a single program in that long... except crappy BASIC stuff.. but I did get to make my Safe-cracking program (which, BTW, no one has beaten to my knowledge :P).

I figured I would had to reformat again, and I really wasn't needing or wanting the program editor that bad. Usually when files go corrupt you can't fix them.

Get some printouts of "tasm80.tab" and "ti83plus.inc" and start typing! :P

You also need a good understanding of hex...

You can't as of now, but when Titan comes out from Detached Solutions, it'll be possible.

(: :)

Re: Re: Re: Hello guys!
Andree Chea  Account Info

It's possible, but slow. Short example:

Code:
nop
ret

Using "tasm80.tab," its machine language would be:

:PROGRAM:TEST
:AsmPrgm
:00
:C9

Use 'AsmComp(' and the resulting program will be exactly as if it came from TASM (or whatever compiler you use).

I believe TitanASM is dead. That doesn't mean somebody else is working on something similar... ;)

Does anyone like TI-BASIC?

It is pretty limited with variables and stuff. Not to bring down Basic programmers. They can do some good programs but most of them are useless. Just another file to add to the site. Many of the Basic programs are crap. I mean, just look at mine. Although If you want accurate conversions, my program does work. I have seen many conversion programs that are programmed incorrectly and don't work right.

ASM is much quicker and can do so much more stuff. It is unfortunately more dangerous, since i almost screwed up my calculator but luckily i tested it once again on VTI.

I have one file in the ti-89 basic media directory on this site (check link), and it isn't even real basic, just some new icons for Integrated Desktop and an "idicons" file. It's so unimportant that the pic I sent in still hasn't shone up after about a month, not that I care.

...I like BASIC...

But then again, it's prolly cause I suck at ASM :D

I think its better to do Math and science related programs, but ASM is better for high tech games. Although some amazing BASIC games have been created, most are with ASM support in the form of OS extensions or subprograms. Also, ASM is way, WAY better in the graphics department... most BASIC games have really sucky graphics (no offense, mine do too...).

Also, I have seen some new Operating Systems made for the TI-83 on this site. I just wonder if they are like TI's OS's. Can you just install them and run programs through it without having an OS(such as 1.18 on an 83+ or 2.23 on an 84+), or do you have to install it into the regular OS. If not, then much could be done with this... Many games could be preloaded right into the TI-OS. Also, many new functions could be programmed in such as Omnicalc's and Symbolic's functions without actually having to have the APPS on your calculator. The only downside to this would be that you couldn't update the games or apps once they were in there unless you completely updated the OS. This would be the only major downside that I can see (of course someone will spot more...)

I was thinking that with as much talent that is present on this site that at least ONE person would know how to do this. If so, we could create a whole new language with a mixture of BASIC and ASM commands... This would probably be the greates feat ever accomplished on a TI-Calculator. We could created an OS that could do anything and everything anyone would want without having to have a single external program...

Well, that was my imaginative mind going off for half a page of writing... If anyone knows of a way to do this, I think he/she should contact a bunch of members on ticalc to maybe actually put this into programming code... That would be so AWESOME!!!

(: :)

If you send a custom OS to your calc, it overwrites the TI-OS, so you can't run programs or anything (unless the new OS is designed to do that). The problem with adding new commands and stuff like that is that someone would need to disassemble the TI-OS, make some sense out of the huge amount of code, and then figure out where to stick in their own code and change jump addresses and stuff for the data/code that's been moved by the insertion of the new code.

Ah, you want a combination of BASIC and asm? Follow the "web page" link at the top of my post and click on the "MLC" button at the left of the page. ;-)

I believe they were made because "some people" thought the TI-OS was too restrictive, annoying... in short, "they" hated the TI-OS. So, these OSs were made as an attempt for a better alternative. Right now, they only show that it is possible, but just imagine... an actual useful third-party OS on the 83+/84+... *sigh*

Damn right! Now here's a topic I can get behind! It's about time TI had a little healthy competition! Most of the programs here just work around TI software. I say that the fine programmers here can create a whole new system, one that works smoother and smaller. Just imagine it! I think I could add my 2 cents to the layout too. I might just be getting my own hopes up, but it would be an awesome ULTIMATE OBJECTIVE for the entire ticalc.org site community to work towards. My only disagreement is that you're talking about the ti-83+,ti-84. I only have a ti-89 (worth the extra $ in my oppinion). Could this project include it? Maybe you could make a portable OS? I'm dreaming again, I know.

An improvement on the speed and functionality of Ti-basic is in order, too.

Why stop with basic? Make it ALL better. Add easy oncalc ASM editing and capability. Remove as many of the limits as possible. Create a greyscale OS that doesn't drain the batteries too quickly. Anything you can do or think of, possible or impossible. Who's willing to work on this? Yay or nay. Bring the dream to life. (and please ignore my overuse of drama)
Speak up! ANYONE?

Speaking of program languages. Could someone please tell me how to easily convert .asm programs to .ppg so that I can save space on my calc. I know that it's a simple matter, but I have ZERO knowledge of programming. :( I also can't seem to figure out how to use the converter in tigcc tools suite. A post or email would be welcome.

If only Michael was more motivated back then... (he was the one who discovered how to load a non TI-OS onto the calculator, btw :D). He had some cool ideas, most notably multi-tasking (TSE anyone?) - the idea of running multiple programs at the same time, etc, etc.

I also suggested somewhere else to use Fast-RPL (by Leo Kuda) as a possibility for an on-calc language :)

Most of the "OS"s are basic wanna-be's. They don't do anything but imitate mirage, and even then they can't do anything worth the ammount of space they take up.
'Basic OS' is an oxymoron.
