Free TI Gift for Calculator Purchasers
Posted by Michael on 25 November 2004, 17:17 GMT

TI is running an offer for anyone who has purchased a TI graphing calculator in 2004. If you have, register for a free holiday "gift." The free gift is a hotmath.com subscription and/or 500 SAT preparation questions.

On an unrelated note, Fry's Electronics is selling the TI-83 Plus for $69.99. Lastly, I'd like to wish a happy Thanksgiving to those of you in the United States.

So how exactly would that benefit a college student? I don't need to prepare for the SAT, and I somehow doubt that site would be useful...

Well who says it has to benefit college students anyway? TI is probably just focusing on high school students.

Does this include purchasing brand new 83+s from our school @ AUD$195 that are over 4 years old? Does that price seem a little steep? The school thinks it's a fair deal as they get them in bulk. I'd think they raised the price to 1998 standards and left it there to make a profit. Walks to OfficeWorks....

It doesn't matter. TI isn't asking for a calc ID. The honor system at its best.

That's assuming I'm going to be taking calculus...

(Which I will be.)

Yeah no doubt. ACT and SAT is a long forgotten worry from long ago for me. By my third year of college I'm concerned with GPA and making a nice resume.

Now if they were giving away free subscriptions to Minitab or SPSS, now we're talking. At 1000 bucks a pop, that'd help me out. :-)

Considering most people buy their calculators before college, I think there prizes suit the majority of those buying graphing calculators.

Yeah you're right. I used software too when doing the ACT, to get ready. It actually is a pretty good deal, considering the test readiness software is usually pretty beneficial.

Same here. OK, I bought a Titanium this year, but they didn't check it, they just "asked" me. Everybody could pretend having bought one. You don't even have to enter your calc's ID or something like that.

In my opinion, this "free gift" is merely an advertisement for hotmath.com to get more customers

that makes sense, maybe hotmath payed them to give out the gift. I doubt that the gift giving has cost TI much.
