TI Connect v1.5 Released
Posted by Michael on 17 August 2004, 16:39 GMT

TI has released version 1.5 of their TI Connect software for Windows. This version is a normal release and has been updated since the beta version that was included with 84+ and 89 Titanium calculators. As usual, there is a long list of "known issues" that should be read through upon installation. Most notably, it appears that using a firewall can in some cases prevent TI Connect from communicating with a calculator.

You will need about 45 MB of disk space to install this latest version.

geez...the 'disk cost' said this would take 56mbs. a little excessive if you ask me.

The download is absolutely HUGE!! What was TI thinking? This is going to take many hours to download on my 56k modem!

TI was thinking that most people have upgraded from dialup.

But if you use a cable modem, DSL, or a home/office network, you can't use it when you travel, can you? I mean like at my house I have Adelphia Cable but everyone elso we know has Cox Cabe.

With dial up it's slower but it works everywhere - even at 33 Kbps in a older neighborhood with old phone lines not designed for data transfer but it's better than 14.4 on my Cell Phone or trying to subscribe to a wireless hotspot service like T-mobile and going to the airport to surf the net...

I got it a few weeks ago...it works alright, except that DeviceExplorer doesn't work! It finds the calculator, then stops responding...*sigh*

1.3 worked, 1.5 doesn't. Go figure.

(Oh, and the 56 megs doesn't bother me much; I just do other stuff while it's downloading, and I've got a 120 gig hard drive, so 56 megs don't mean jack.</bragging>)

You'd be surprised how fast that hard drive space goes. I have a 100GB drive and I'm down to 15GB.. Seeing as how my last comp had a 2GB drive and I kept it at 500MB free I have no idea how I used all that space. Well no, most of it is Windows. I deleted 6GB of just temporary files..

Well, you're right of course; I've gone through about half that in 6 months. But to be fair, I have been sorta trying.

It's been one year, and I've only used 5 GB of my 40 GB hard drive. I think that when you have less disk space, there's some sort of psychological motive to be conservative and not put trash in the system. What, I run like Disk Cleanup once a day? I never get to accumulate 6 GB of temp files in the computer.

I've never had any problems using up all my HD space... but I regularly clean out my files and have a habit of burning old files I don't plan on using for a long time to CD-Rs. So the only time I usually am using more than 1 GB for my personal files is when I'm working with uncompressed audio or some other task that temporarily uses a ton of disk space.

LOL... Yeah, I've got quite a few discs now, too. I have to use a cataloging program just to figure out what disc something's on. It takes way to long to search every disc.

I got TI Connect version 1.5.3 like two weeks ago. Is this "new" version like 1.5.4? Too lazy to download a 18 MB file...I hate 384 Kbps DSL.

When I bought the TI-89 Titanium (89T) last month, it came with TI-Connect version 1.5.2 (beta?). So... are you saying that TI has released a somewhat out-of-beta version, such as version 1.5.3 or above? What I mean is, at the ticalc.org homepage, it said that TI has released TI Connect 1.5, but again, I wasn't sure if it's the same version I bought (1.5.2) or there's a newer version. I'll try it and see what happens.

The new version is 1.5.3. They're just a little behind. (I could be wrong, but I don't think so...TI isn't big on putting up minor version numbers.)

I've been waiting for a version of TI Connect that would work with my TI-86.

I just wish I could figure out how to post to a mailing list, because I'm having some difficulty.

Thats funny. The Mac OS X install covers only *goes to check* 10.6 megs. Granted its only v1.1, but its works flawlessly. Most of you probably don't remember me so I'm off to go get some sleep. Oh, I have an 80 GB internal and a 250 external dirve. Dent in my storage space? Ha, not even a spit. I am gald to see that the community is alive and kicking still. Though I'm not active very much here, I'll never let my HW1 89 and V200 die.

Note that only english version is available with 1.5, with French you can only get 1.3. Haven't tried other languages but i think it's the same.

You can't use ti connect 1.5.3 for that. You'll need 1.5.0.027, that version has a program editor in. Works ok as long as the program is downloaded from your machine directly or if made on the editor at once. If you use a 84 it won't work with programs you downloaded from this site.

Just use the old graphlink software fore that. Open in graphlink for 83 + and copy into ti connect 1.5.0.027 for editing a ti 84 program.

I think thay where not able to get this bug out of ti connect and just took the program editor out of 1.5.3

By the way, no problems with blue screens or firewalls when it runs under 98se. (Gray cable and usb 84 cable)

I have Windows 98 on this computer. From where (not ftp) do I download TI Connect version 1.5.3 because version 1.6 is not compatible with Windows 98 SE (or below)... I forgot where I downloaded it from/to, but can anyone point me in the direction to the TI Connect version 1.5.3 or e-mail me a copy (as a backup)? Thanks. I don't have the CD-ROM with me, so... thanks again. Bye.
