Learn 83 Plus Programming with ticalc.org
Posted by Michael on 12 July 2004, 17:15 GMT

Are you looking for something to do during the summer? Well, we have posted our first tutorial since Morgan announced the reopening of the ticalc.org Exclusives. TI-83 Plus BASIC: A Beginners' Guide focuses on the fundamentals of 83+ BASIC commands, also providing a few challenge programs and solutions.

We've also added links in our programming section to Learn TI-83 Plus Assembly in 28 Days. This tutorial (also available online) has been very highly rated by users. It is the best 83+ ASM tutorial I've seen.

Here is a tutorial (well, book really) on assembly. It isn't z80 specific but it has helped me tremendously.

Not to mention the ink/toner that you would need.

Iwould like to thank case Boehm for sending me the link to the onlive version of the assembly tutorial. I would have linked to it a long time ago if I had known it was on the web.

Also a big thanks to Boris for taking the chance and writing the first ticalc.org Exclusive in (what I am guessing ot be) about 6 years.

If you want to write a tutorial for ticalc.org where you can link to your personal webiste from it if you so wish, just e-mail tutorials@ticalc.org and I will be happy to help ya out as I see fit.

P.S. I am going on vacation for about a month anf with no internet don't expect me to be doing a whole lot of filearchiving. Sorry but I need this break!

I know enough about BASIC that the Tutorial wasn't necessary, but it is a fine one. I used bgo.netfirms.com to teach me everything when I was in High School. A great site.
Anyways, it seemed to me when reading Boris' sample programs that they were really too muddled and cluttered. A lot of them could be cut out, and you could do the exact same thing in half as much memory. Anyone else see this?

Yes, I also noticed that. Infact, reading those tutorials prompted me to start work on my own set, because I already know 83+basic, and could barely get anything out of those things :)

yeah, they did seem a bit short... myself i used bgo.netfirms and some (matt's?) site for BASIC with the black background and blue text

I also used matt's tutorials. Those things are great, it's like mjs2000 something or other, right? Hey by the way, check your email if you get a chance.

I made a pdf of a basic BASIC tutorial of my own... it was OK but it kind of laid it on heavy (as in teaching every possible thing about the Disp statement before moving on to Pause, not learning all the basics THEN coming back and learning more). Actually the only good things about it were the getkeycode chart and the cool header. :)

Who needs a chart? The keys have an easy to understand pattern.

The getKey numbers are easy to remember if you use it a lot...i can remember some, like the numbers for the arrow keys, clear, and commonly used things, but i still have to refer to the chart sometimes.

There is the modifier pattern-if you add a constant to the unmodified code, you get diamond, 2nd, shift, or alpha modified codes.

TI-BASIC isn't that hard to learn. If you know Basic/C/C++ or almost any programming language, TI-BASIC is very easy to learn. I fiddled around with my 83+ for about two days after I got it and knew most of the commands. The only thing you really have to learn is the syntax and what variables to put in what order. The TI-89 menu tells you what syntax to put in, so it makes it even easier, providing you have some fundamental programming skills. Assembly, of course, is a different matter (at least to me).

Well, after this last BASIC project of mine gets done, I will start my journey through assembly. I've not yet learned how to do it, but my calculus classes at college are really making me want to learn now. So after August 1st, I will begin learning assembly.

Assembly is too low level. I'm sticking to scripting languages.
