File Rating Toplist added
Posted by Magnus on 3 April 2004, 17:08 GMT
Now that we have collected a couple of ratings on the files in our archives (about 2500 of them), we have now added a toplist based on file rating. Rating will also be listed on the file information pages.
We are using a weighted average instead of a straight one. This is done so that a file that has received a lot of good ratings will get a higher average than one that has just received a few, and then the same for files with low ratings. For this reason, it is possible for a file to get a weighted average that is slightly above 10 or below 1.
So, once again, go rate files! Just select the rating you want to give the file on the file information page-

This is definitely the best addition to ticalc.org's features in the past week. But being the best shouldn't stop you from getting better, so I recommend:
Statistics by calculator for the top rated files. After all, if you are like me and want TI-85 programs, it's not that useful to see that various TI-89 and TI-83 Plus programs are highly ranked when there is only one TI-85 program in the list, which I already have. Also, it might help to lower the minimum number of votes for the TI-85 (and maybe some others) since they may not have enough users to get lots of ratings on each file.

Could each file's ratings also be added to it's author's author page? I would find this useful. Thanks.

Glancing over the toplist, I notice that zShell is number one...I have no problem with that, but its weighted average is currently a 10.03. 10.03? The rating scale, the last time I checked, only went from 1-10; how can zShell possibly have a weighted average over ten?
