Mercury v0.75 Released
Posted by Michael on 18 February 2004, 04:12 GMT

[Mercury]Our most-downloaded author, Patrick Davidson, has released yet another fantastic space shooter game, Mercury v0.75. This one features a scrolling background, different types of enemies, bonuses, and game saving. It's available for both the 89 and the 92+.

You'll also notice the horribly blurred image to the right. This is why we have talented and proficient people other than myself who handle screenshots :).

Why? Will it be so much better than this one (or two)?

No, it will be for the 85. The same game, just for another calc, which is good for you 85/86 people. (How could he not do it for the 86, if he is doing it for the 85?)

if you use a shell on the 86, you can run most 85 games...

If I were a girl, this would be the time for me to scream wildly, and take my top off. Sadly for Patrick, I am not a girl, but doing it anyway.

On a note that is less disgusting, I would like to say that this is awesome news. I would never have thought that I would have seen another game by Patrick Davidson. I am very glad that he has released a game like this, because we have seen that he is the master if the space shooter genre.

LOL- you wear a top?

Yeah, I was really happy to see Patrick Davidson making another program. That's really great. And this game looks really cool too. Now we have a horizontal shooting game. Most are vertical.

There is phantom star for the 83+, though it tends to crash after your first death.

I would think your first death would come *after* it crashes. *rimshot* ;-)

Do you know how to repro this crash? And are you using the zip file from ticalc?

Umm, repro?? If you mean reprogram, no, I have never taken the time to.

I have forgotten where I downloaded it. I think it was maxcoders. Would this make a difference?

reproduce, sorry.

I will check the maxcoderz version and make sure it is up to date. I have never experienced a crash bug like the one you described.

Well, just about every time I die, the game crashes. Generally what happens is: health goes to zero, weapon icons fly out of my ship (always thought that was a really unigue feature), I hurry to grab them, game freezes for about 2 seconds, then "RAM cleared" message comes up. I always attributed this to the beta marking of the program, and figured the easiest way to get around this was just not to die... after playing phoenix so much, this wasn't that hard.

Anyways, on mercury: The energy level is really great. It seemingly is a real-life feature (a ship can only do so much at once) that is rarely used in games, even "professional" ones (ie ones you would buy at a store). I do not, however, like the fact that in some places the screen moves -causing the user to avoid any obstacles not destroyed- and in other places the screen is frozen until all enemies are defeated.

Wish He'd Port...

If he would port the killer games like Platinum Edition and Mercury to TI 83+ that would be awesome since the majority of TI owners have an 83+ I can't believe he would make a good game and only take advantage of it on expensive calcs. nobody has. If someone knows how to port PLEASE PORT THESE TWO GAMES TO TI 83+

I believe the reason Mercury isn't ported for the Ti-83 plus is because he would have to change its design significantly. I have a Ti-83 plus as well as a Ti-89 and I'm almost positive that the game would be to flickery and slow to run on the Ti83+. I could be wrong though...

Besides the differences of the lcd driver between the calcs, the assembly games for the 89 are in 68k, while 83+ assembly is z80. He would have to rewrite the entire thing (or most of it) to get it to work on the 83+.
