Smart-Bars 2D
Posted by Michael on 24 January 2004, 04:23 GMT

[]Smart-Programs has been working on a civil engineering program called Smart-Bars 2D for the 89, 92+, and V200. It performs calculations pertaining to structual analysis involving complicated and fantastic things like shear hinges, trapezoidal element loads, and many other elements beyond my understanding. The authors have released a demo for download, with the full version available upon request on their website.

why?

It seems that you have ALL the calculators except the voyages 200 and 400.

1. Reality check: the v400 DOES NOT EXIST!!
2. This is really cool, but unfortunatly not especially useful for me at this time. Still a good project, though.

It's all over my head too, but I'm sure engineers will really like this program :)

No, it doesn't...yet...but it would be pretty funny if TI made that the next 68K calc (after the TI89TI that is) with the dame features as those in the 4/1 article...

I am so happy i am not a civil engineer, or my school would make me do that complex S*** without a calculator like they restricted for every math class i have ever taken here and now in calculus

It's not that complex, mostly it consists of integrating polynomials and converting coordinates to calculate forces and momentum in the bars.

It really is not that complicated. Simulating a rocket engine firing (accurately) would be hard.

I took statics courses last year... If only I had had this program back then! :)

I took statics and dynamics two years ago. I passed with a b-. I'm still embarrassed everytime I see the prof who taught that class.

Hi I'm posting this just to start a thread that does not begin with a "looks cool", but "it's useless to me" post.

Since there aren't many people here who study civil engineering, it's quite understandable that they have no idea what it's good for...

I do not study civil engineering, but applied mechanics. But they torture us with structures as well.

Me neither. I study technical informatics, but some civil and chemical engineering subject have crept in... At least I have a broader view. :)

It could be useful for people who study mechanical aspects of other engineering disciplines.
