TextEdit v0.4 and Game Genie v1.0
Posted by Nick on 30 October 1999, 21:17 GMT

I think this is the first time in a while that I've seen a lot of great 86 programs come out at once; so I figured I would give two especially good ones their just mention.

TextEditTextEdit v0.4: This program, similar to TxtRider for the 89/92+, lets you create text files for the 86, complete with bold, italic, underline, etc.

Game Genie v1.0 is quite unusual - it lets you edit assembly programs to get extra lives or points. Currently, it comes with ways to modify both Sqrxz and Mario 86 to get ten lives in each, but further support can be created through the development of add-ons.

This is the awesomest gaming crap I have seen for the 86 for ages!

Anyways, thanks programmers for saving my life in Mario 86!

ok so a program that encourages cheating and a program that looks like it was ripped of clem's txtview get a special mention, while a high quality image editor doesn't?

High quality? Heh, put in grayscale and maybe it'll be worth a mention. Clem's by the way only allowed viewing, not editing.

clem's only allowed viewing, and if i recall correctly, used bitmaps for the different font styles instead of having a routine to modify the built in font. i suppose from your point of view that's not important, but the program would be larger if it worked that way.
now if you get really picky, this one doesn't let you edit things either, yet, but it will...

Clem's didn't have a built in editor, but test was just normal programs that you edit with the BASIC editor. And the syntax wasn't much harder than HTML to use, either. Just make a custom menu for it...

Who cares if a program encourages cheating as you say. If somebody wants to get some extra lives in Sqrxz does that really matter. You can't honestly tell me that you have never looked at tricks or shortcuts or anything else in a game. Because according to you those would also be forms of cheating. Also I hope that your Paint program never gets an article on the main page. Your complaining about it not getting an article is not needed. The ticalc.org is very capable of posting news articles. If they felt your junky program was newsworthy they would have posted. Stop complaining and get on with your meaningless life.

Interesting prospective but I actually do program many languages in fact. I program in mostly C++ for my computer. Along with developing web pages. For my calculator I program in TI-Basic and 68kasm. I also am the Vice-President of Dimension-TI. Oh well...

The Game Genie is pointless, from what ive read, it works on 2 games, and i dont play either of them. And they are easy enough so there isnt really a point to it.

And for the TextEdit, it is a good idea but HOW DO YOU DELETE TEXT OR GO BACKWARDS THROUGH TEXT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!you cant delete!! its textEDIT and i cant figure out how to go back, the arrows keys do nothin and u can t clear or backspace.
If the creator of Text Edit makes it all work better, and save the files into TextView files so you can use it to view it it would be better.
hopefully v1.0TextEdit will do that stuff, if it does---gr8 prgm it be!!!

***Shameless Plug***

Asmide86 is actually a very nice text editor, and it has back and delete and all that good stuff. I know it's made for editing assembly source files, but as long as there's A: or Z: at the beginning of the file, it'll work just fine.

Maybe i'll make a text editor-specific version at some point.

ASMIDE86 is good but it doesnt view T: files, only A: and Z:
to use it to edit it you have to go edit the T: file to a A: file first then put it back, annoring.
I wish Clem would make it detect T: files to.
The Goto part is sorta buggy, locks up alot. and somtimes it locks up if you use ZAC through it, and it really messes up after you have to use chmasc, it always gets text added at end of its files--y???
AND WHY cant you go backwards in TextEdit????
and GameGenie is not worth mentioning, or textedit, they should have mentioned the 5 asm prgms b4 them.

Well, Jonah wrote that editor with a little help I think, and it is one of the best editors that I have seen (especially for a Z80 calculator).

chmasc is my program, and so don't go blaming Jonah or Clem for that. I think you have a bit of a problem with who programmed what... Also, you might read the program disclaimers sometime.

chamsm (or whatever wierd name) appends some funky characters to the end (or somtimes middle) of basic programs and causes them to syntax error after a recovery (from a crash) but most asm programs 'revive' nicely!

For some reason Chmasc never works for me. ASE revives fine, but all the other asm programs become basic programs filled with st>eq or some other conversion keyword. Does chmasc not work for rom version 1.6?

Same thing happens to me, ASE revives just fine, but all other assembly programs come back as Basic programs. Even the program despcription box in ASE detects them as basic programs. Only difference is i got ROM 1.2

hmm, did you read the included text file for textedit? i quote:
"Currently, you can open and view the first 7 lines of any editable program variable. You can type stuff in, but it isn't put into the var."
You can't actually edit the var, or move around yet. (unless i put something in and forgot about it)
