AS92 - On-Calc ASM Compiler For 89, 92 Plus
Posted by Nick on 27 October 1999, 01:23 GMT

Deep Brain Activity has come out with an interesting new program. This program allows you to compile assembly code on the 89 or 92+; it's called AS92. You can download it from our archives for the 89 or 92 Plus.

You aren't wrong, this is old news. It's been out for at least 3-4 days, maybe a week.

After checking with my e-mail archives, it was released the morning of October 20. So 6 days.

You could have solved this problem by not asking me "how should I swear" on AIM the whole time. :)

I was just wondering, does the 89 and 92 + ASM compilers compile buggy ASM programs like ZAC does for the 86, and do those programs make your calculator crash like the ones produced by ZAC?

This compiler seems quite good! It catches most errors and with the ise of Archive utility 3.0 and doorsos beta 2 and DB92 your calc most likely wont crash!

THEY DON"T CRASH!!!

I have ZAC and have been prgming on if for a month.
I have only crashed my calc once using the ZAC&ASMIDE86 group : when I sent a 20 K file(Jimmy Mrdell's SQRXZ w/o coments - that took me a VERY long time) from my PC to the 86 and opened it in ASMIDE86.
I have created 10(+-1) pasmprgms w/ZAC. One has crashed - described above.
So, I gotta shoot ASMIDE86 - not ZAC.

This may seem off topic (but I've noticed most of the conversations on these boards tend to stray that way anyhow :P), but is the flash upgrade for AMS 1.05 worth installing? It says there's no functionality changes, just that it is a maintenence upgrade. Also, would this change what games I could play on the 89 if I installed it?

using rom version 1.05 will stop alot of games from working, but some good ones, such as pheonix and sfII will still work. Also, be wary of archive utility 3.00, it destroyed my calculator. Arctil 2.00, however, is bug free and worked just perfect for me with ROM version 1.00.=)

What do you mean by 'destroyed' your calculator? As I understand it, there is a small area of the 89 rom that cannot be overwritten no matter what you do to the rest of it. As such, even if AU3 screwed up your rom you can always re-flash your calc.

for some stupd reason, i tried downgrading my friends calc and i sent 1.00 rom to 1.05 rom and the thing, instead of installing it, it froze. i mean it was on for hours and nothing happened so i took out the batteries. nothing happened. we tried everything. so we sent it back to ti and then my friend who works there told me that i had for some reason erased the freaken rom. nothing was there. so a calc can be destroyed. do it to people you dont like ;)

Damn. the exact same thing happened to me when I tried to reflash my 1.05 with 1.00, except that mine sez "press I to recieve product code" too bad an error always comes up when trying to transmit from the other calc. My poor Ti Ð may it rest in peace. If anyone has fixed this problem, please, please e-mail me. yosweetlady@excite.com

To re-install the TI-OS you have to flash the ROM from a COMPUTER when that happens. Try asking on EF-Net in #ti, #tcpa, or #ti-files to see if anyone in there has the v1.00 FlashROM for the computer. If you can find me on IRC sometime (Nick: YodaToad) I could tell you someone I know that has it.

most likely, if you have a new TI-89 that came pre-installed with AMS 1.05, you CANNOT flash it to 1.00. Easiest way to check, is check your HARDWARE version. On the about screen (F1) (A), if it says HARDWARE VERSION 2.0, then you CANNOT flash the calc to rom 1.00. Sorry, but that was told to me directly from TI!

It won't say v2.00 for a while... it hasn't come out yet. It might say v1.05, though. :)

He said HARDWARE VERSION, not SOFTWARE VERSION. There are calculators with HARDWARE VERSION 2.00 out there but SOFTWARE VERSION 2.00 was not released yet.
