I think the "Recovering Memory" screenshot looks suspicious... Also, would there really be 100's of new items in the catalog? Then TI would have to print a new manual. This might be real. This is probably a hoax. (hopefully not)

Better to print a new manual (and buy/download a new manual) than to make a compleatly new calculator (or buy a new calc)
And I agree that the "Recovering Memory" screenshot does look suspicious.

Look at the view menu picture, then look at the view menu on your TI-89. TI never does ....... like that, they do colons. They've followed the same format for every menu in the whole calculator, why would they abandon it now and use ....... Anyway, I won't believe it until it's really released.

P.S. If I have a TI-89 already, can I upgrade for free, or do I have to pay, and how much?

Also look at memory screenshot...The Flash ROM memory is below the level of the top of the ENTER button.

Chances are AMS 2.00 is free.

Yes, it will be free. It has to be because the upgrade lets them sell you flash applications.

These are most definatly NOT fake! AMS 2.00 is scheduled to be out December 1... So get ready!!

i've been waiting sooooo long- the ti site says "fall '99"- if it's been scheduled for 12/1 why didn't they write it there? a while ago i heard it was supposed to come out around late september, and it never did...december 1 sounds like another rumor...

Seeing is believing. These are just a bunch of screenshots that could be faked without much trouble. I'd like to think it's real but until I see it from Texas Instruments, I'm not going to believe it. There have been other clever hoaxes. Remember the WinOS scam? People have been posting stuff on TI's message boards since early summer claiming to have AMS 2.00. You can't believe everything you see or hear.

Other than that, I think it's great that they've added a lot of features and I think it's quite possible that they'll release new documentation. This kind of stuff was the original purpose of Flash ROM, remember. I'm not really interested in the changes in display or the fact that the Archive isn't cleared in the case of a crash. If all those new features are added and there's help included with the catalog, I think that's great. If this is for real, I'm glad that TI has added new math functions to its calculators. I just hope they fixed some of the bugs in the CAS. I also hope that this is for real and not somebody's idea of a joke.

As for the December 1, 1999 release date, where'd you hear that. I've heard lots of dates mentioned so what makes that one true? I've only heard sometime this fall for ROM 2.00 and early 2000 for the release of the SDK. I'd like to know where this information came from.

I don't know about anyone else, but I saw the December 1 release date for CAS v2.00 on the 89/92+ message board at the Texas Instruments website.

I am going to wait until the CAS v2.00 comes preinstalled to get a TI-89, so that all of the new features in CAS v2.00 will be in the manual (and it will take that long to save up enough money).

As I said, seeing is believing and until I see something from Texas Instruments, I'm not going to believe it. Don't believe what's on the message boards at TI's website. All during the summer there were people posting there that they had AMS 2.00 but they obviously didn't. Lots of people are mentioning dates but I doubt any of then know whay they are talking about. Knowing the way TI has been in the past, they'll surprise us and release it without much notice. That's just my guess about it and I wouldn't believe anything that appears on those message boards.

I go to the TI message board a lot. Trust me, Paul King, the author of those posts, says it will be released in December. He works for TI.

I wouldn't say it's a revolution, these are just evolutions. The only thing that is really great is the extra memory, but why on earth wasn't it already avalaible in previous rom versions ?

Did that say what I think it said? In the event of a crash, Archive memory wouldn't be lost? That's excellent, to say the least. Now *serious* on-calc programming might become a foreseeable option on the 89. Also, what language was AMS 2.0 written in? Still C, or did they redo it in ASM this time (to free up that much space)?

If your worried about recovering memory, use arctil to restore archived files and keep an archived copy of files that wont's work archived in a seperate folder. You can copy that backup folder into the main folder after arctil restores your mem.
also, I'm really looking forward to this new version of the software. ( extra memory + crash protection = fun)
