Ion v1.1 Released
Posted by Nick on 10 October 1999, 07:14 GMT

Joe Wingbermuehle has released a new version of the now-famous Ion shell. It includes a lot of needed bugfixes. You can pick it up from our archives for either the 83 or the 83 Plus.

Does anyone know what programs were affected by the old bugs?

BTW, has anyone ever had the problems with Tunnel and The Fourth Element where the screen width becomes only 2/3 of what its supposed to be? You have to see it to understand it. . .

Ion v1.1's fast copy is fixed so that means that all of your games shouldnt split screen anymore.

YEAH! My Tunnel game breaks into 2/3 mode sometimes too. It is all like *broken*. I got my highscore when that happened though 312. My previous was 301. I love ION. MY 83+ was obsolete before but now.... math class is fun!

This is a little off-topic, but does anyone know where the file archives went? When I go to the /pub/ directory, all that it has is a link the the /root/ directory. Does anyone else get this?

This seems to happen every once in a while, but I haven't figured out why yet. It's very easy to fix; it just requires us to regenerate the index page for /pub/. I think it's happened 3 or 4 times before...

Download the new versions of Ion and Tetris / Tetris Attack, there were a few bugs in both the shell and the games.

ION 1.1 improves a lot of the bugs i have run in to. I can run my games more smothly than ever. I and a lot of other other people are waiting ever so patiently for a PASSWORD program for ION to be Relased to the Public. I have E-Mailed Joe, TCPA, Domain, and many other programmers for this if you all want a PASSWORD program to be released E-MAIL Joe at joewing@calc.org and tell him that you would like a PASSWORD for ION. I think we have waited long enough!

There is already someone currently working on a port module for ION. It should be out pretty soon! In fact, I think it was released only a VERY small time ago. Check out Joe's site, on the message board for a message that is something like "I have finished porting PW, Joe, please contact me!"

Well, hope that helps some,
Matt H.

Not to complain or anything, but I noted that a new version of YAS came out and it did not get a news item.

That's because it's a minor upgrade (v0.91->v0.94). There were no significant new features.

But when YAS 1.00 comes out, I will post a news item on it. (Nick, I've called it. No posting that news item because it's mine.) ;)
