Icarus Productions On Pocket.ign.com
Posted by Nick on 6 October 1999, 02:42 GMT

Pocket.ign.com has recently released an interesting interview regarding a hosted site on ticalc.org: Icarus Productions. This interview with Andreas Ess highlights many interesting accomplishments of Icarus (most notably the recent high-color demo for the Game Boy Color), including how they got their start coding programs for the TI-8x calculators. It's definitely worth reading.

This interview was done in August. Why is ticalc.org announcing it now?

Maybe Nick has a very very loose definition of "recently"...

Bryan, you should know the ticalc.org system the best of all people...you worked there for 2 years! Let's see...how does news get on the ticalc.org website? Somebody emails it to news@ticalc.org. They don't go out and find it themselves. And what's this about your "news?" Isn't it about 9 months too late to be considered "news?"

When I did the news here, I went out and found it. I also went out and found files, I didn't wait for them to be sent to me. I believe those are two major differences.

Ditto. I think Bryan should rejoin.

I think we should all forgive him and let him rejoin ticalc.org! He is not only a avid caulator nut, he was and still is a good worker. I say we petition ticalc.org for Bryan's re-hiring!

I have nothing against Bryan as a person, but what internal strife there was when he was a staff member shouldn't go unregarded. If judging from work performed alone, then I would say he's the best man for the job. But there's other factors involved. Does he contribute to the well-being of the site (besides doing all the work)? Of the other staff members? There's more to hiring someone than just on performance alone. I personally would like Bryan back on the staff of ticalc.org. He (almost single-handedly) brought ticalc.org to its current status (he may disagree with me on whether it declined since his departure).

So, I wonder if we will ever get a response on this from a staff member...?

Well, I don't exactly count as a staff member anymore, but as soon as I loaded this web page and saw that article, I thought to myself, "Oh my gosh, that is so old unless they did another interview". But I doubted that, seeing as Andreas has been gone to his military recently. Sure enough, it is an ancient and totally unnewsworthy article. EVEN IF it were on time... the subject matter is questionable as far as relating to calculators. The fact that Icarus is still hosted by ticalc.org is questionable since Icarus has stated that they plan to do mostly gameboy programming in the future, with very few calculator projects.

The interview was done and released before Andreas left.

Right. That's what I'm saying. When I first saw the article, I thought "it must be pocket.ign.com did ANOTHER interview, because ticalc.org wouldn't post about something so old". But that seemed fishy because Andreas has been gone, and it turns out that it really was two-month-old-news

Ahh, I see what you are saying. :) So why was it posted here, so late? Did someone just notice it and forgot to look at the date?

When did you see the pocket.ign.com interview first Kirk?

I saw it a few days after it was first posted. I thought it was cool, but hey it didn't really relate to TI's at all. Especially since the article is mainly about getting lots of colors, and all TI calculators have to say for colors is shades of gray.

I wouldn't exactly call it cultural value. I'd say that it's present in every civilization and there's drunk people in every civilization. But what about part II?

Hey, Bryan: as soon as your web page is up and running, be sure to tell ticalc.org to post this as a news item...I think it would be very newsworthy, plus it would inform everybody who visits ticalc.org that your web page is finally complete (resulting in quite a few hits). I'm looking forward to seeing it!
