SubHunt v1.0 For 82 and 83 Released
Posted by Nick on 8 September 1999, 23:24 GMT

Sam Heald of Void Productions has ported Subhunt, the immensely popular game for the PalmPilot, to the 82 (Ash) and 83 (AShell83). One thing that makes this game especially noteworthy is its size (about 2100 bytes) thanks to the optimizations of Wouter Demuynck [home page]. Unfortunately, some of the coding prevents 85 or 86 ports from being made at this time. On a similar tangent, SubHunt will not run under an 86 shell supporting 82 and/or 83 ASM, such as ASE, YAS or Rascall.

Pretty Spiffy game. I just wanted to take this time to congratulate all of the programmers for spending their time engineering all these games. Everyone has been doing a great job at programming and me, myself, knows how time consuming programming can be sometimes. Everyone, Thank you for all your time spent towards developing new and creative games. Just keep up the good work, cause I know it isn't just me who thinks you programmers do a great job at it.

Last weekend my brother came home from college. he showed me his palm pilot that he just got and it had some games Including this one. He had breakout and things like that but this was the most addictive and fun game. Everyone who can should download this. this seems to even go faster than the palm pilot one. Though I wish someone would convert it to TI-83+

Dang, no emulation of 86.
The only time is not good to have only an 86 is when games like these come out.
Did anyone notice the lack of Games for the 86 beside me?

i have one question. how do you run 82, 83, and 85 programs on 86 using those shells. I have ASE and i don't know how to run 85 games using that shell. someone please email me. thank you.

I have to say, this game IS pretty addictive, and with some good graphics too, considering it's less than 2.5K. Will it be ported to the TI-83+ Ion shell?

or how bout the 86 if i had a 83emulater id try to rewrite it for the 86 granted that i could get the authors permission... but 83emulators are illegal without owning the calcs they go with arent they and why is that? we have more fire power-so to speak- with the comp than with the calc....

The reason why those emulators without the calcs is illegal is because TI doesn't want people to 'use' their calculators freely short of buying them. I guess you can't blame them, but in your situation I wouldn't blame you for using one, even though its illegal.

cant no rom for the emulator i understand the point on ti part but how many peop come to this site who havent bought a calc...if we download the emulators its just to utilize other programs. the advantage of owning a calc is that its portable w/out that id stick to mathematica... I own an 86 and im about to buy an 89. Seems like ive contributed enough money to ti's cause to be allowed the use of a ti83....

Did anyone else have problems with using Mode as the right fire button? Everytime I press it the program quits. I hope they fix this in a future version.

Download v1.1 from the archives. In v1.0, DEL was the exit key, but I changed that almost immediately when I realized you could accidently press DEL instead of MODE. The new exit key is CLEAR, and the new pause key is DEL.

I have the same problem. Mode simply quits. I'm not acidentally hitting the wrong key or anything. Also, the 1.1 archive still lists itself as 1.0 under SOS. This is on an 83, SOS 2.0.

I think more programmers should port (or make versions of) Palm Pilot games for TI calcs...SubHunt is a good start. Visiting several Palm Pilot pages (such as the excellent PEZ) and seeing the games available for them makes me want to go out and get a Palm V!

This game is cool! I played it, and loved it! However, I do wish you could turn your boat around so it would fire out of both ends. Still, it's a pretty fun game!

Let's just say v1.2 is rapidly on its way. I forgot to reset the keyport before testing for the exit key(when I changed it for v1.1 that is), so MODE (the key used to fire from the back) sets of the exit command :(

Download v1.2 from ticalc.org. It fixes the MODE bug, and I also decreased the delay between shots (which should make the game a little harder).

Thanks for making 1.2 and fixing the bug. This is a great game! Great job, Sam!
