Hollywood Gala Draws Unprecedented Celebrity Interest
Posted by Chris on 12 August 1999, 22:17 GMT

WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA - To celebrate the opening of its redesigned Web site, the ticalc.org project hosted a glamorous, star-studded gala on Sunset Boulevard Wednesday evening, attracting the patronage of such high-profile stars as George Clooney and Nicole Kidman.

The invitation-only event easily filled the interior of Spago's West Hollywood restaurant, as ticalc.org staff members, convened from as far away as Sweden, rubbed elbows with famous actors and Hollywood persona.

Sean Penn and Steve Guttenberg were reportedly turned away at the door; for those lucky celebrities who made the cut, however, an unforgettable evening awaited. Among the more notable attendees who gathered to get an early glimpse at the improved site were Paul Reubens (better known as "Pee Wee" Herman), Cameron Diaz, Jack Nicholson, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Steve Allen, Michael Stipe, Helen Hunt, Matthew McConaughey, and David Spade.

Leonardo DiCaprio was quoted as saying, "Screw partying, I'm going to a Web site for calculators tonight."

Spike Lee could be seen anxiously reloading the site in his web browser, brow glistening as he eagerly awaited the reincarnation of ticalc.org. He called it one of his "joints," but failed to elaborate.

Gary Coleman took a rare respite from assaulting "hos" to get a look at the new site's compelling features.

All told, the event will surely be classified as one of the year's best, topping even Charlie Sheen's March bash at the Cat and Fiddle.

Rumors ticalc.org staff member Nick Disabato departed with "Ally McBeal" star Calista Flockhart were unconfirmed at press time.

Did you guys use Slash for the new format? For those of you that don't know what this is, it's the source code used for Slashdot.org. I know there is an old version available for download on their. Did you use some variation of this?

It does look quite similar, however all of our code and templates were written in-house.

Is it just me, or does the new format load slower? Also the preferences I set on the main page don't work (the My NS thingy is still there).

Be sure to choose "enable custom front" in the preferences or else it won't work. Also, you need to have cookies enabled.

Has anyone else looked at this page with Mozilla 8? I was wondering if I am the only one with slight display problems...

If it happens again, please send us a screenshot so that we can see what the problem is.

Someone sent us some screenshots, and I'm downloading Mozilla 8 as I write this. Hopefully we'll be able to diagnose it.

This new site looks nice, and the 15 letter limit is now replaced with a 40 char limit!

Yep. Comments can now take up the entire width of your window, so it's no longer such a concern. (For the record, it has been a 25-char limit for the past few months...)

Site redesign? Now we know what ticalc.org's been doing instead of real work.

Heh, you're saying redesigned the site and rebuilding it from scratch isn't real work? j/k :) Yeah we kind of... neglected other duties while trying to get this up and running. For example, you probably see a lot more of us on these message boards now.

"neglected other duties" That's what I meant. Hey, I just saw this little gem:

Almost every program in the archives is user-contributed and unsupported by ticalc.org. Proceed at your own risk!

Translation: Every program since Bryan Rabeler was fired. HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa!!

Huh? None of our programs our supported. What we mostly mean is, please don't email us and ask us how to play ZTetris... that gets annoying. And also that bugs aren't our fault, even good programs like ZTetris lock up once in a while...

Well this is coming from a user who actually plays ZTetris... it doesn't lock up. Unless you happened to run an unstable game beforehand.

I don't think I've ever played ZTetris on the TI-82, TI-85, or TI-86 and had it lock up, ever. Jimmy really knows his stuff! (And so does Sam Heald, who did the TI-82 port).

It can lock up in link play occassionally, but that's about it.

Nope. The programs on ticalc.org have /always/ been unsupported by ticalc.org (and we have always said so).

This means that we don't write them and we don't use most of them, so if you need help using a program, you need to contact the author, not us.

It really looks nice. The old version didn't look quite right with a 1024 x 768 resolution or higher, but this is great. I am also pleased with the cookies. This should work well towards filtering out all of the nonsense posts. I don't know who came up with the Fake News idea, but It seems like a good idea for when things are going slow.

What are you talking about? I don't even understand. I didn't even post this news article. At least post this comment to the article where I was listed as *one* of the authors. And for gosh sakes for the last time I DID NOT RETIRE FROM TICALC.ORG. Go back and read the article. Yeesh.

And also, perhaps I can't count but I only retired from something once... Which was a mistake to announce...
