Expander2 Page Moves, Drivers Updated
Posted by Nick on 18 July 1999, 00:10 GMT
Bryan Rittmeyer, the creator of the Expander2 (E2), has moved his page for the Expander2 and related material. It can now be found at http://horizon.pair.com/e2/. Bryan has also updated the drivers that allow E2 users to transmit files to and from their calculator. The E2 project is a 512kb memory expander for the TI-85, TI-86, and TI-92 graphing calculators. We hope you go and check it out soon!

yea... well, why all the hype and advertisement about the e2 if some of us ordered ours back in august and september of last year and haven't gotten two words about it out of bryan, let alone a product. even after trying to contact him numerous times, he seemed kind of rude about it. thats bad marketing in my opinion for someone i was willingly going to pay 40$. Just how many people have ordered theirs almost a year ago and have the same problem? i think the free advertisement for him on ticalc.org isn't right because of this.

For the record, I do not nor have I ever sold assembled E2s--if you contacted me asking for one I probably redirected you to a subcontractor. If you never received a response from me (bryanr@flash.net, now bryanr@pair.com) it was most likely because of flash.net losing significant amounts of web traffic and e-mail (This is the main reason for the site moving). In any event, the only active subcontractor now is Bruce Christensen, bruce@iname.com. He is swamped with orders, and I apologize if he has been unresponsive to you however I hardly think that gives you the right to flame =me= publicly without as much as loading the site and learning how E2 distribution is handled.
I am merely the R&D guy--I anticipated demand much larger than I could handle and passed assembled unit sales onto Bruce. If I was rude to you in the past, I apologize now--although none of other ~300 people I have directly sold E2 parts to have complained about my conduct (nor have any of the other 300 waiting for assembled E2s). I would also like to remind the community that the vast majority of the E2 design is availible under terms of the GPL and that it is not a product of some huge evil **cough** Microsoft (TM) (C) (R) **cough** Corporation--rather the E2 is a small "hacker" project targetted largely at people with some electronics skill and interest in TI calculators. Not to be a jerk, but if you really want an E2 you can pick up a book and learn in 25 minutes enough to assemble one. Failing that, you will simply have to wait for Bruce as he is doing the best he can. Neither of us have mass production experience and it is very hard to order 300 units of something when the big boys are only interested in producing 10,000.
Sorry if any of this sounds like a flame--however I try very hard to defend the good name of myself, those who work with me, and my projects, and do not appreciate unconstructive public criticism. If you feel the need to continue this further, I welcome e-mail at mailto:bryanr@pair.com
Regards,
Bryan

Does anyone know if the driver for the TI-89 ported from the TI-92 works? Also I urge anyone who is good at ti-83 asm to finish up the port for the ti-83.
