Scheduled Downtime of ticalc.org
Posted by Magnus on 16 July 1999, 10:37 GMT

All queued actions such as e-mail to the lists will be kept, and delivered once the systems are back up again. Only the physical location of the servers will change - network connections will remain the same.

We apologise for this inconvenience, and hope to return to our normal uptime levels by tuesday. Please remember that the moving has to do with computers, so there is always a major risk that the planning does not work, and things are late.

Me neither! Isn't it great? It's kinda like a natural trip...colors intensified, objects appearing more 3-D, 2-D, or both, weird sounds, etc. Plus once the initial "grogginess" wears off (usually after the third night of sleeplessness), you don't feel tired at all and won't be able to get to sleep easily even when you try to. For an intensified effect, try depriving yourself of food and drink as well. Just don't go driving...

Heh, now you know why I enjoy theatre so much. There's no feeling quite like being awake for 44 hours and then trying to strike a huge set piece :)

My favorite is coming in @ 5:30 AM after three sleepless nights and two nonconsecutive cast parties; after having done three shows, and then almost falling off the upper catwalk (50 feet) while trying to undo lights near live wires in high-voltage outlets.

God, I love stage crew.

Well, basically all the other servers where it is now are moved. And with them moves the network connection.

Don't you guys use one of ti.com's servers? That isn't getting moved as well is it? couldn't you use that for a while...

TI only supplies the secondary domain server for the domain. They don't supply a server for web hosting.

If TI does in fact supplie the secondary domain server for the domain then how can this statement be put at the bottom of all the pages "Texas Instruments in no way endorses or is affiliated with ticalc.org." If seems that ticalc.org is clearly at least affiliated by Texas Insturments in atleast one way. Would that make the statement at the bottom of all the pages a lie?

You have a good point.

I don't know if that statement could be called an absolute lie, but it certainly appears to be misleading, doesn't it? :)

The statement may not be a flat out lie. But I do think that it is very misleading. TI does not just supply secondary domain name servers for anybody, therefore ticalc.org has to atleast someway be affiliated with TI.
