Re: Coolness
Chris

I'm using this comment for a REAL comment...
I was wonder if anyone knew how to overclock the 89 or has a website on overclocking ti's? Also, I think that ti should have seperate sections for ASM or BASIC bacause they don't really compare(some come close though!) they are too different to have nominations against the other. THere are great programs for both types of languages and I think they should both have a fair chance.

Overclocking etc.
Jon

I would also like to know how to overclock the 89. Also, has anyone designed a tool, like the Expander-II for the 8x calcs? I thought this was a really useful tool, and I wish someone would desgn one for the 89.

The 89 IS overclockable, supposedly up to 3X the normal speed, although I haven't found directions anywhere online (only mail-order companies). . .

The Expander II would work fine if someone would just port the TI-92 driver - not an easy task unless you know your VAT really well (I tried =)

It is possible to overclock the TI-89. If only I had one. It isn't my site, but I posted the address as my URL, so just click the link!

I tried this guys directions on my TI-86, and I am happy to report a 333% speed increase!!! I guess his directions must be valid.

We are in the process of revamping our nomination process for next month. Upon our decision, it will be clear what can be done to get programs on the list. Currently, it is done by staff nomination.

What happened to the Basic Section of the voting?

Program of the Month (excluding BASIC)
Tip DS

Yea, where's the BASIC section?! As a rule, I don't run ASM programs on my calculator. This is maingly because I use my calculator as a tool, and I know that ASM progs. can wreak horrid problems with memory if the programmer made any mistakes.

Duh, which way did he go...

Yeah, guys where is the Basic section. That isn't fair to those who don't like ASM... yeah ok, they are fast and nice to run, but I like Basic games, and there are a few goods one out and on there way...

asm progs could mess up your calc but only until you pull out the batteries. Its not the end of the world. Basic progs can also fuck up all your settings or over write vars. plus they are sooooooooooo slow

No, not the end of the world, but it really sucks when you do REAL work on your calc and it goes to heck in a handbasket. Especially hard to stomach when you know some high-school age programmer wannabe tried to be a hotdot after reading a 2 page ASM tutorial. Most of the goofballs trying to program in ASM don't know the first thing about error handling, and that's why I don't feel comfortable using ASM programs.

Protecting from ASM programs
HC10

Someone should write something similar to stabilizer on the 92 for other calcs. Its a TSR that traps errors caused by other programs.

Ok, I'm glad that YAS and Zap-2000 were nominated again but I really think that drugwars 3.0 deserves a nomination. Infact I would demand one but I can't. Ahhh, is Jezzball86 ne good nebody?

Drugwars 3.0 was nominated last month, although they messed up and listed it as version 2.1

Jezzball 86 is pretty good, if not exactly like the 85 version...although it's annoying that the diagnal and vertical arrows change automatically depending on where you move them; it's confusing and I never really understood it...now that F1 changes the arrow direction, this little pesty feature is pretty much useless.

Hm, somebody else reported this too. Email Dan eble@ticalc.org .. I saw a working version of it, which is why it was nominated. It is pretty cool, I'm not sure how useful, but cool..

You hook up the link to your 89, and then anybody can download files off of the 89 via FTP. Pretty cool, if you should ask me :)

What do you mean not useful? It's very useful if you're running unix and want to transfer variables to and from your 89/92/92+.
