Upgrade Successful
Posted by Kirk on 16 May 1999, 20:40 GMT

We have successfully upgraded our server from a 486 DX4-100 to a Pentium 200 MMX. The site should be noticeably speedier. We only encountered a few minor problems during the upgrade - such as having to break off the power switch to make the motherboard fit - but hey, we hardly ever turn the thing off anyway. We're already hard at work thinking up ways to saturate the new CPU!

Wow
Parag

First, I have to congratulate you guys from beg. to end.

Umm, I think i have a good idea. It's ticalc.org starts using cookies. Like i have an 85 and an 83 ONLY. Soooooo, ticalc.org would use my cookie and only display those programs on the home page.

What do you all think?

Re: Re: cookie
Evan

You could take this further, display only the new progs for calcs you own on the My Netscape thingy. If that's possible, which it should be.

ticalc_chris

We have some cool stuff we're working on this summer, and while I can't make any promises, customization is definitely something we'd like to offer. Thanks for the input.

even more suggestions :?
KAKE
(Web Page)

a combination of the above mentioned would be good. ie. you would only see the new programs (at the bottom of the page) for the calcs you have.

No problem
Parag

No problem. I was just came upon this idea when i was messing with home.microsoft.com :)

I'm sure if we had a survey and full force feedback from a lot of people, we would see wat new features or what kind of customization of ticalc.org they would like.

Shut UP!!
higgimonster

Why didn't you guys get this? Why didn;t you guys get that? Whay are you all asking those stupid questions? I feel like this comment board has changed from a discussion of ticalc's upgrade to a contest to prove who knows the most about hardware and software for servers. This is not a commmercial sute thus they don;t have the money for a p3-550 w/ an oc12 internet connection. I am sure most everyone here knows a sh*t load about computer hardware so instead of trying to create lists of high-end hardware to one-up the last guy, try to have a discussion.

Re: Shut UP!!
Mitch

I happen to like reading about hardware. Upgrading the site isn't really that exciting. I don't want to see 100+ comments that say "congratulations" or Wow! "You guys ran this on a 486"
I would much rather read people ripping on Mac users. They are slightly more efficient that PCs but why bother? there are very few descent programs for it, and you have to use that ultra gay one button mouse. I took a programming cource this year on a mac, and it just made me want to cry.
And other than windows Microsoft makes ass-kicking programs. I would sure as hell rather use MSie and Word than any of the competition.

i used to have what I think was the very first laptop computer... well, i'd like to be able to call it a laptop, as it was the size of a large piece of luggage. It had a non-backlit LCD screen that was maybe 4 inches by 10 inches. It was a bit odd but it did do word processing faster than my k6-2 300 now. and the old "laptop" only had 2 3.5 inch drives; no hard disk drive at all. it's sad, when you really think about it...

It's too bad that mingled in with the useful comments aKromix makes are many offensive comments as well.
