davidsoft.ticalc.org Revealed
Posted by Kirk on 2 April 1999, 02:07 GMT

Davidsoft Software is now being hosted by ticalc.org at davidsoft.ticalc.org. The site includes information about their programs for the TI-82, TI-85, and TI-89 as well as some information on programming techniques (soon to be expanded). Be sure to give it a look!

Sorry Dave, but I do agree with everybody else. I think you should put up some sort of 'under construction' page and overhaul the real page. I third grader could have a page with better HTML and JAVA on it. Re-open it when it looks like a real site and I'm sure everyone will like it.

By the way, what was the "April Fools" gag on the TI-Files anyway, I looked at thier site on the morning of April 1st, and that apology was put up. I must have missed it, what happened? Did Bryan do something again?

They said that Matt, a TI-Files staff member, had died or something to that effect. I did absolutely nothing, I am too busy right now for that sort of thing. :)

You shouldn't be so critical, for TI-Sites it helps to get them up even when you're still working because you're constantly adding programs and updating the page. It's a lot easier to get programs from people when your site exists then when no one knows about it.

In response to all the negative comments posted about my site, I will be adding as many programs as I can this weekend, though mostly for the TI-89 this week.

This site looks like a ticalc look-a-like...

Not such a great site in my opinion. If you're only gonna have things for the 89, then don't say your site is a TI-85 or 86 site.

I mean 85 or 82 site.

There are some TI-85 programs on there (look under "Algebra I"). I don't see any TI-82 stuff right now, but I don't think they would specify TI-82 unless they were working on some.

Look at the time stamp on your comment for an explanation. Not everybody lives in the eastern US!

I don't understand. Why start a site before it has any programs? they should have waited until there was more content on their site. now nobody's going to want to visit it.

davidsoft, like most web developers, apparently feels that it's best to imitate microsoft and put out a product before it's anywhere near release-quality, because, hey, they can update it any time.

Having a site is not just about having hundreds of poorly organized programs. Every program I add has to be catalogued and tons of information has to be entered. As of now, I have many of my programs there. Almost all of them have not been released elsewhere. This is also a one-man operation, and I had to do a lot of preliminary setup to this site on the web programming side. I spent hours and hours each day to set up JavaScript Applets, Cascading Style Sheets, Access 97 VBA HTML export programs, and zipping/unzipping files. I'd like to see what the Adam B's site offers in this case.

I'm not neccessary criticizing your site, I'm just saying you should have waited until it was more complete to publicly announce it. It's important to start off with a "well-filled" site so that people will want to come back. Good luck with your site, anyways.

well david, i'd have to agree with adam b. your site does looks a little sparce, although everything's laid out nicely. you commented that it's a one man operation. you might want to make that at least a two man operation (it's too dificult to run a site like that by yourself).

I have to agree with KAKE. It takes forever to make changes to a site if you're the only one working on it. Please e-mail me if you would like to help me work on my site. If you want to work on archives, though, you will need Microsoft Access '97. Thanks.

I'd like to see these "JavaScript Applets" you're talking about. Must be pretty impressive.

I use JavaScript to open the new browser windows for contact and program information. The applets are not really that interesting. You still have to spend the time writing them though.
