Program of the Month Award
Posted by Kirk on 1 April 1999, 02:05 GMT

Following was an April Fool's joke that was meant to be informative at the same time... not a good combination... But even so, we encourage you to vote for the Programs of the Month anyway :)

Due to a lack of interest in our recent Program of the Month voting, we have decided to step things up a little. Therefore, the file archivers will pick a Program of the Hour; from that, they will pick a Program of the Day. Out of those they will pick a Program of the Week. Then each month they'll group these together and let you vote on them.

surf on over to dim-ti and you'll find that ti has answered the asm info request by matt and dux. lame response though. i hope that they can keep their word (TI's info is invariably in depth and inclusive so it's really not suprising it's taken so long, just disappointing).

Program of the Year.

Program of the Month.

Program of the Week.

Program of the Day.

Program of the Hour.

Program of the Minute.

Program of the Second.

Program of the Millisecond.

Program of the Nanosecond.

This is such a lame April Fools's "Joke" I didn't even bother to laugh. I just think that ticalc.org overall is digging themselves into a big hole.

Good luck getting out :)

I agree. That was so lame... What you could do though, put up a link on your front page called "program of the nanosecond" that would, through the magic of Java (or something), give you a random file. That would be mildly amusing the first time as well as increasing your file requests.
Next year's April Fools joke: "Quake][ for the 86 is released, requires a voodoo2"

Actually, that'd be an interesting idea--ya know, post the release of Wolf3d for the 82 or something, post a few "screenshots", and link to a file that just displays some inane message or even something that looks like it crashed the calc followed by something saying it's just a joke. It'd take some more work than just announcing the "program of the picosecond", but it'd be a hell of a joke.

Ha Ha Ha, really funny, like there would actually be a program of the hour. But hey, ya never know, the real joke might be us thinking that it's a joke, and they might actually pull it off!... ... ... Nah, I don't think so.

actually, in a way, This joke actually makes some sense. I mean, Program of the hour is too outrageous, but couldn't you use the request logs to automatically pick the most downloaded new program of each day as a "finalist" for "program of the week", then have the monthly vote like ticalc.org uses now?

Ahhhh, yes, that could work! Actually now that I think about it, they really should do that, just to proove that it isn't an April Fools joke. :-)

you call that a joke... it makes the #1 joke for the Top 10 on Letterman actually funny...

you should remove the L/P to encourage voting. Use a cookie to keep track of double votes from the same IP.

I agree. I see some games in there that I'd really like to vote for, but the last thing I need is another password and username to remember. (By the way, where's my game?)

What about people who's IP address changes (mine does) and it is very easy to dissable cookies.

i don't think they're that concerned. if someone was to go to the trouble of changing their IP address (apparently it wasn't any trouble for you because there was a reason), then they figure, why not let them vote twice?
