[Defiance Screenshot]

Adamman has released five new screenshots of Defiance, a 3D shooter for the TI-82. The final engine should feature grayscale, solid color floors, and sky textures. Visit the Defiance Website for more information and the latest news on the project.

Does this use the infinity/maze3d engine? if not, whatever happened to it?

No, it's based on a new, more advanced engine.

more advanced? I don't think you've seen the source to maze-3d. almost nothing could be more optimized than the maze-3d engine

I said more ADVANCED, not more OPTIMIZED. It's not a raycasting engine, but rather one step further. It can do non-orthogonal walls and the level size is virtually unlimited (of course memory is a factor...).
But no, I've never seen the Maze3D source.

oh, sorry
well, good luck making that fast enough to play :-)

You know, you could give Adamman a little credit for pushing the envelope, rather than giving some sarcastic message of good will. Adamman, you are a genius, and I appreciate your efforts (unlike some...)!

ive played the texture maped version of defiance and it looks like its coming out nicely. I don't know what all your peoples obsesion with porting is. if you want it ported ask the author and do it your self. besides the game isn't out yet! why are you worrying already! if you really wana play it download calcem or ti8x emu and play the damn game. just chill out. if you dont play the game its not the end of the world! borrow someone elses 82 or something. like i said earlier, if you wanted it ported do it your self

Next generation software
Zero

Expect the TI games to take a whole new direction in a few months because I'm working on a new dll type file that can be called on to play sound, 4/8 shade support and 3D graphics... I mean this can do Tomb Raider if somebody wrote the game using it (89/92) may be able to do this. Well, I'm taking the name from Microsoft and called it DirectX. The file will be aimed for 83,86,89 and 92 plus. So far I finish the sound calls and I'm nearly finished with an highly optimized shade engine (I'm doing a lot of compression and caching of data to do this), but haven't started the 3D engine yet

DUDE!!
That sounds GREAT!!
I hope it does everything you say it will be able to do.
Mabey change the name though; i don't know if I would want any thing named DirectX to be used on my calculator (it's bad enough to have it one my computer). But if it is really what you claim you could probably name it "Deadly Virus" and I would still load.
[ok, i'm done drooling]

Sounds great! "DirectX" isn't a bad name.

Re: Next generation software
Evan

DirectX? Ohh, big trouble there. You should call it DirectY or IndirectX or something to keep Microsoft's laywers off you. Also, haven't we heard this sort of thing before? I'm not saying you're lying, but we've all heard this sort of thing before. You know, Goldeneye in Asm Hybrid, the 187 byte version of Mario, Windows98 (no, not the crappy Basic version, the real version on your computer)

I hate to mention it also, but when will the 83 see the likes of this game?

I'm just guessing, really, but it is most likely to be ported to another calculator AFTER it has been released for the 82. I'm sure that they will announce a port, so just keep checking for one.

Re: New Defiance screenshots released
Evan

Will it work with ASE CrASH emulation or whatever? And what's up with the recent throwback to the 82? (Zelda, Defience) Does it really have more power or commands or whatever than the 86/89/92? No offense, but the point of the higher numbers is supposed to mean that it's better, so I'll have to agree with Cardboard.

Re: ''Throwbacks''
Eric Newman

It probably has something to do with the fact that there are some good programmers who happen to still own the TI-82. Just because it's older doesn't mean it's obsolete.. Sometimes a programmer doesn't have the money to buy a newer calculator, and sometimes they just choose a particular platform on a whim if they've got more than one available.

Re: Re: New Defiance screenshots released
ya right

Oh my god. How could you even say that? So just leave everyone without a TI-92 Plus high and dry? So all of us that just bought a TI-86 for 120$ should just up and buy a new calculator for 150+$? Ya ok your making sense now big guy.

I just visited defiance homepage and it looks great, but I wonder how fast this game is going to be (hell, quake etc is just tooooooo slow).
And I also have to mention that I would really like to see that game on an ti83 (I know, shame on me :-) )

Re: New Defiance screenshots released
NuTz

I hate to break it to you guy but the TI-82 is a big piece of crap. The 83, 85, and 86 are ten times better. I hate the shape of the 85 but it still does more than the 82. I can not even imagine why anyone would waste the time to write a block buster games for the 82. It's freak'in scary. I'm not saying it's a bad game, I'm just saying that you're pretty dumb to buy an 82 when you can shell out another 10 or 20 dollars for an 83 or higher. I'm not yelling at you if you bought an 82 before the 83 and 86 came out. I'm yelling at the people that just bought an 82. You're all freaks. I'm a proud owner of an 83 and 86. I don't want an 89 because they already stated that you can't use it on the ACT. The 86 can be used on any test. The 89 is also being banned in schools for tests like the 92.

Call Guinness Its a First!
LoSt

This may be a record of some sort. This could be the first time in history that a TI - Calc owner is jelous for a program that is on a 82... Its about time too, finally the 82 gets a great game (hopefully... its not out yet so I'm not counting my chickens yet) and you other ti owners are raining on our parade.

I agree with you (Cal) that it's about time that a good game was made for the 82. And now I am jealous of 82 users... at least, until it is ported to the 83. (sorry for making the same old request once again.)

I think I know why you left out the fact that the TI-89 is allowed on the SAT I.

Well, no need to be closed-minded, think of it this way. Humans have been carving things out of stone for millions of years, and some artists, even with the possibility of computer illustration, still choose to carve out of stone. For some, certain formats just fit their personal style, and they prefer that format even though others think the more modern formats are better. 82 programming is fun and apparently suits adamman pretty well.
