Anaconda shell released
Posted on 13 January 1999, 10:28 GMT

Kirk Meyer has released Anaconda, a shell for the TI-86. This is really a newer and better version of Byronic Shell, a shell that Kirk abandoned a while back. The source code will not be released for this shell, due to someone stealing and recompiling Byronic Shell and calling it their own. This distribution contains three versions (0.1, 0.2, and 0.3), each with different features.

Right now I would say Ashell is the best shell out there for 86, but if your new version that's still to come out is better, I will switch.
One suggestion for your next release: make one version with all the new features (85 emulation), but without password protection. Who uses password protection anyways? I use Ashell and never have set a password, but a lot of people use my calculator and accidentally set a password, so when I hit shutdown in AShell and turn it back on, it asks me for a password. I have to take the battery out and put it back in as fast as i can, but most of the times the memory is reset.
Well, you are doing a good job so far.

Uh. AShell is very out-of-date. At least use one of the newer shells... As for password protection that won't be implemented until v0.5 when plug-in support is added (allowing not only the option of password protection but also possibly integrated E2 usage, compression, and more)

I don't know if this is plausible given the different architechture, but my bet is people would want 85 and _83_ emulations if it can be done. I've seen AShell do 82, can't see how it would be a lot easier than 83... course I don't know jack about emulation, just love that it works ;)

Also I don't know if it's possible but could a shell have a MASTER teacher key? Few programs have one implemented effectively (a usefull tool, everybody has to admit ;), and if the shell I was running through could put one in I'd be game (and I know a lot of other people would too). Just a few more suggestions for options, 2 I'd really love to see.

Pete

BTW: Is it at all possible to send to an 83 from an 86?

It is not at all possible to send from 83 to 86 or the other way.

If it's really true that Version .4 will be able to emulate TI-85 Assembly Programs up to 32K in size, then I'll gladly switch. It's about time that someone had that option in a shell. Also, one option that would be good would be to support the programs that only ASE can support, like Zelda 52.4.

Haroon I

You seem to be a little bit misinformed. The new version of Zelda can be run through RASCALL!! go to Evil Sam's webpage to find out more!! Sorry, but I can't remember the Url for his webpage from the top of my head.

Evil Sam's site is at:

I had to break it up cause the cr*ppy script doesn't like anything over 15 characters.. Make sure you take out the spaces when you try to use it :)
