Preview of CiOT
Posted on 26 December 1998, 20:24 GMT

Stephen Horne has given ticalc.org a demo version of CiOT (Calculator Info Organizer Thingy) for the TI-86 for previewing. When completed, this program will include a phonebook, an agenda, and a calendar (shown right). Stephen recently lost the source code and all attempts to salvage it using a decompiler have failed. However, Stephen will start over on the project if there is enough interest.

Plenty of interest here.

Hey, is this enough interest for you? We want this. Now, if you could pull of an asm clock while you are at it, it would be great!

Right now, that is beyond my capabilities. Also, to my knowledge, the fact that the power level changes as you use the calculator would make it very inaccurate. However, if this changes, I'll try to add it to CiOT.

hay a clock in the custom menu would be cool! And extremely useful!

Asm Clock

That was debated for a long time on the A86 list a few months back. We came to the conclusion that while it might be possible, it would be extremly difficult. The interrupt timing slows down as the batteries drain. While Kirk Meyer's program does a fairly good job of showing the battery level, it is still inaccurate. And to keep it running, you couldn't run any program that used interrupts (all grayscale games, Sqrxz, even Rascall).

I actually wrote a clock in asm for the 86 a while back and posted it to the list. Email me if you want the source. Although I never got around to letting you set the time, it showed a very accurate clock in the corner of your screen all the time. The problem with it is that it would probably be off if run on another calc with different battery levels. However, if anyone wants to run tests on this, please let me know.

See, I told ya (ok, I knew but didn't say) an asm clock was a feasble idea. It just takes a bit more brain power than some programmers are giving it. It is extremely complicated, but I am sure a couple of programmers may stumble onto the key on how to accomplish it. Oh yeah, I still want the asm clock on the program though. I am sure ACZ or TCPA or the other coding group (I forget the name) can pull it off.

It sucks when you lose something in to the abyss of 0's and 1's. Especially when you have an English paper due the next day !( -DOH!! Speaking of Abysses, I have those "commons" if anyone wants a couple for free!

That's a reason, not an excuse. I mean, with
people crashing their 86's with new games and
betas...:)

But I thought a reason was usually better than an excuse.

actually, a reason is ALWAYS better than an excuse. people usually actually believe reasons.

I really want to see a program like this become available. I looked all over the TI scene for a prog like this a while back and wasn't able to find anything except cheap BASIC programs that won't do much. This looks to be exactly what I, and obviously many others, are looking for. Well done, Stephen, and I hope that you are able to finish the project.

This sounds like a cool idea. I say that you should definetly redo it. Thanks.

hey, cool, this would make the 86 kinda like those 3com palmpilot things but with more games

Definitely, right now I have to use a cheap BASIC program for that it's just not powerful enough. I'd definitely be willing to delete even 10K of games to get something like that working :)
