Yoshi v1.0 released
Posted on 23 December 1998, 18:51 GMT

Brandon Sterner, a member of TCPA (TI Calculator Programming Alliance), has released Yoshi v1.0 (SOS) for the TI-83. Tim Anderson and Miles Raymond designed the graphics for the game. Yoshi was originally a NES and Gameboy game and is similar, in some ways, to Tetris. Yoshi will be ported to the TI-82, TI-85, and TI-86 in the future. Some other games currently being developed by TCPA include Pong, Centipede, Asteroids, and Battleship.

Yes!!! This game is awesome. I've been playing fit for the last 10 minutes since I downloaded it. Great job Guys!! This ranks up there with the greatest 83 games!! Is there going to be another version w/high scores???? That would make the game even better. Or maybe grayscale. That would make this game the best ever!!
Thanks TCPA,
Chris Moultrie

Thanks but ahh this game does have high scores. If you look at the picture right below the level you'll see HIGH: . I know it doesn't let you type in your name but maybe our next version will.

You should port to the 82 and 85 because the 86 is able to run 85 programs and that would save you the trouble of so many ports. What is the address of your site?

85/86 Ports

While the 86 can run most 85 programs, many users (including myself) would like to be able to run all programs using the Asm( command and not have to put a shell on the calc just for one or two games.

If a program is less than 8k, then it should be very simple to port it between the calcs, at least for the original author.

Yes, it would be a bummer if many people would have to miss out on this game because of library compatibility problems.

I think he means how to install them, or what they are. You need to download ZLib & ZGfxl library files, which are found in the assembly archives. Then just put those files on your calculator, just like any other program. :-)

Oh, in that case, I think someone needs to spend more time reading documentation. That is the main reason people don't know about certain features in some games.

Great idea, great game. I loved the old NES Yoshi, and finally someone has come up with the guts and intuition to port it to a TI-Calc. Keep up the good work. =)

Great Job Guys, this is an Awesome Game!!! Great Job on the TCPA Site also, Brandon... =) Hey, well I'm glad I could be a part of this game with all the "helpful" suggestions I had as a Beta Tester. I'll definetly get the 82 Port out soon, if you ever release the source code, Brandon! hehe... Well, I shall have it done before I hafta go back to school which is January 6th, so the 82 release can be expected in about 2 weeks... I know there is an 86 port happening, and I heard that there is someone who is willing to port it to the 89. =P I hope we can get this to all the calcs soon, so is there anybody who will make this game for the 85 or 92? =)

Let's not forget something else that's very important: linkplay.

Yup, this is a good game
BUT:
Why isn't there a way to choose your level?
AND/OR a way to change the difficulty?

Programming Groups
marc c.

Has anyone noticed just how cool programming groups are? Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like before the only real cool games were being released by single, talented programmers. This meant fewer games, less ports, and generally less quality. However, now that some groups like TCPA and AZC have formed, it seems like the TI calc community will soon be seeing tons of great games and programs, with better graphics and more ports. This is something we could really, really use. The only bad thing I can think of is that individual programmers will have a hard time competing. But hopefully this will not matter too much. BTW, cool game idea? Crystal Caves in grayscal. I would love to see it...

It's actually the ACZ, not AZC. It stands for the Assembly Coder's Zenith. Check out our new website at the url above.

Crystal Caves? I think I have that cart for my Atari 2600. Isn't that the one where you're a bear and you jump around dodging skeletons and pick up dots?

I downloaded all of those SOS files plus yoshi and install on my calc but i still get syntax errors!!!???? Why?!?

Hmm, that's strange. You Are running Yoshi through SOS right, not from the OS...? Thats the only place I can think of a Syntax Error occuring... =P
