Great! I am very happy that it is going to continue. I hope some programming information will be included...such as programming the TI-89 in assembly. :)

why is it released only monthly now? i think if kirk can keep up with it, it should be a weekly publication.

also, what kind of info is going to be published? i know some people complained that the previous newsletter contained mostly what was placed on the index page at ticalc.org.

Part of the reasoning behind going monthly is to put out a higher-quality newsletter. This means content beyond stuff just recycled from the site itself.

What about Program of the Week? Will that continue weekly, or only monthly?

It will be monthly now. However, it probably won't start up again until the month of January. That way we can award a Program of the Year award at the end of 1999.

Why not seperate the Program of the Week from the newsletter altogether and announce it in the current news instead? That way, the previous winners dont get screwed out of Program of the Month/Year, it gets better publicty, and it competes with hpcalc.org's featured program section.

How often does hpcalc.org feature a program? Once a week?

We could do Program of the Week, however doing that for each calc (BASIC and ASM) would be a lot of work and a lot of winners. We will take it into consideration, since it probably won't start up until January 1999.

What do the articles have to be about? what is considered relevant?

Any calculator related articles are fair game. This could include programming in assembly or basic, ways to do math/science problems, etc.

In the first issue I am publishing an article on how to graph lots of stuff because lots of people don't know how to do piecewise and stuff... Also, send letters to the editor at newsletter@ticalc.org. Every month I'll pick a letter to be published... And of course if you have articles send those too :)

ok. i like the newsletter but there is one major problem. when it first came out all it was was the same mail from the news page. then alot of people cried about that so there started to be new articles. and i think that what ticalc did to get the new articles was leave some out of the news page. and some of these were really cool news things. sorry that i can't come up with any examples off of the top of my head, but hey, im not that bored right now. well just thought i would put my 2 cents in

...which is why it is now monthly. There is a news section in the newsletter which sums up the month's events... but there is more original content, and in future newsletters where I have the whole month to work on them there will be a LOT more original content.

Didn't Kirk retire or did I miss something?

I retired from programming calculators and computers, and use of computers in general. However, I will stay on the staff here at least through the end of high school because its cool and it looks good on resumes and its something to be proud of :)

I know Kirk you don't want criticism on your choices so feel free to ingnore this.

If you are quiting the use of computers in general then whatever your future job may be it won't be computers so therefore having all these computer skills on a completely non-computer related job is pointless.

My this is some kind of stunt. You tell everyone that you are quiting the business and then out of no where "SUPER CALC OS by Kirk Meyer!" That would be cool, but I'm not holding my breath.

umm... no. i will finish cymbol and that's about it. and even cymbol will be only when i get the time... and don't feel lazy :)

Will this new Newsletter have the interviews like the last one did? I am looking forward to know more about the other programmers in the ticalc.org community. An idea would be to do interviews (if possible) with some guys in the Calculator Department at Texas Instruments.

Do all interviews have to be via ICQ? I'd be happy to do an interview, but there's no way I'll install ICQ. Via E-mail or AOL Instant Messenger, perhaps? Also, perhaps the newsletter should pick some programs and go over them in detail. Just a couple of thoughts....
