TI releases Flash ROM upgrades for TI-73 and TI-92+
Posted on 24 October 1998, 01:31 GMT

Texas Instruments has released Flash ROM upgrades for the TI-73 and TI-92 Plus. If your TI-73 was built before 7 August 1998 or your TI-92 Plus was built before 5 August 1998, then you should get this update. The TI-73 update fixes some compatibility problems with the TI-Graph Link software while the TI-92 Plus update fixes a few minor bugs.

Re: TI releases Flash ROM upgrades for TI-73 and TI-92+

I think TI is weary about releasing a Flash Rom update for the 89 because people will start to hack it and do cool things with it. Hopefully someone will take out all the math functions and make it more like a computer. Just think if it could boot up like DOS.

Hmmmmm.....I downloaded it, but it wants the Graph-Link Cable. Is there any other way? Becuase I have the parallel homemade cable. I guess I'll just give TI $40 and get the "real" link cable.....

Hum, I paid only $30 for the real GL cable at service merchandise, and I am happy. It has never broken, it is reliable, and guess what, it is 110% compatible. SO next time you think that the cheaper thing is the way to go, think again, and if you havent changed your mind, slap yourself. And for the FOOLZ looking to buy the CHEAP @$$ imitation cable, save yourself a migrane, dont!!!!

Cheap person

Sure you may think it's cheap to use a homemade cable but let's face it: My cable cost me $2, thats _at least_ $40 less than the GL (in Sweden where I live the GL costs 40$+). So why would I like a GL when my $2 cable works just fine? I could use the money on something better. Afterall, $40 is like almost 30% of the price of the calculator!
I only hope someone will hack the flash-updates so they'll work with my homemade link! :)

Hey! Make a serial homemade cable and everything will be all right since you will be able to download the new flash rom to your calculator!

The graph link is a great tool in using the ti's
and the flash rom updates is a excellent idea, I wish my TI-86 utilized this technoligy.

Yes, I too heard that a lucky few, including Dan Eble and Bill Nagel got flash rom 86's because they helped beta test it. In fact, there is still some of the flash upgrade code left over in one of the rom pages.

This was confirmed by Pat Milheron of TI (the guy who wrote most of the rom code for the z80 calcs).

House

I went there. The upgrade is the same version (v1.01 8/5/98) that I already have on my TI-92 Plus Module when I got it earlier this month.

That's because this update is for TI-92 Plus Modules built before August 5, 1998.

As for the comment up top about why they didn't release it for the 89, that might be because they made a major developement error in making the 89 and many of them broke so everyone is calling ti about it. If I am wrong please correct me, but I am pretty sure that something was really screwed up with them.

Major error??? Do you HAVE an 89 that you can say this? I've NEVER had a problem with the 89 that wasn't my fault. The symbolic differentiation and integration alone have saved me literally DAYS in just the first quarter of this year's calc...
