CrASH v1.5 released
Posted on 13 October 1998, 03:25 GMT

Hideaki Omuro and Jeff Mears have released CrASH v1.5 for the TI-82. This is the final version of this shell. It includes fixes for two bugs found by Sam Heald and both Crash to CrASH and the incompatible programs list have been removed.

why is it that people say "the best shell"? if you were privvy to the betas of ASH3.1, you'd know that Crash is in the dust.

ASH v3.1 is good, but it is not so good that CrASH is "in the dust". In reality, ASH v3.1 is CrASH plus a few built-in functions. Just as CrASH was essentially ASH v3.0 plus a few features and built-in functions. The progression is not earth-shattering.

For those who want to know exactly what has been fixed, CrASH was previously missing two simple set/res commands. The effect was that games that modified the TEXT_MEM would mess up CrASH.
Affected games:
Ztetris (ASH)
Ark
Zkart
Zkart 3-D
Picross
Galaxian
Orzunoid
Break Dance
Pac-Man '98
...and some others

And that is why the incompatible programs list was removed because no longer are there ANY CrASH-incompatible ASH programs(I think).

CrASH has already "CrAShed" on me twice. On Frawgguts and during a short time I left the shell sitting there.

Wow, good work guys!... How about hacking the 73?...

     14 October 1998, 07:03 GMT

Re: Re: CrASH v1.5 released

Why? the 73 was never designed for assembly support. its just a little middle school calculator. Buy an 83 or an 86 if you want games and such.

Re: Re: Re: Re: CrASH v1.5 released

Hell, yeah, go and buy an 89! If you got the money. And if you want to wait a year or two, because A: No one has one. B: Good ASM Games are coming out at the rate of molassas on a cold day.An 86 has access to hundreds of ASM games and progs left over from zshell and new ones as well.

Hey, the CrASH shell I have found to be very good. The ASH 3.0 I didnt like, it wasnt quite as good as CrASH (IMHO). The thing I liked was the Non Crashable Keyboard handler. That was not in ASH 3.0. Pehapps 3.1 will have something like this included. The only thing I am sorry to see is that Mr. Omuro is not going to release the source for the CrASH shell. This would be a great reference for all us programmers because it would att the cabibility to free programs from the shell and allow them to become more self sufficient by incorporating the entry into shell into the program instead of having to deal with a shell first.

Ash 3.0 has the no shell feature

Re: Re: Re: CrASH v1.5 released

But the only game that uses the feature is Weave v1.4, so Dines will probably remove it to save space.

Re: Re: CrASH v1.5 released

NO. Someone is making a street fighter game called "Simalaris" that will use link play. I also heard someone was making a linkable Pong 82.
