Program of the Month Award
Posted on 2 October 1998, 01:52 GMT

ticalc.org Program of the Month Each month the winners of the Program of the Week award will be voted on to determine the monthly winner in each category. Voting has now started for the Program of the Month award for September in the Surveys section. The voting will end on 10 October 1998 at midnight GMT.

This month IVIEW95 v2.7 won in the Computer Utilities category since it was the only program to receive the Program of the Week award in that category.

Yeah, I'd have to say, this is a very good idea. Semantic idea, however: make the voting which ends October 10th be for October. That way it's more like Playboy's playmate of the month in that you get the magazine at the beginning of the month and ogle it all through the month.

If you know what I'm saying.

I see what you are saying. However, these programs were all written _in_ September and therefore it makes logical sense to have it be for September. When we get down to December 31, we want to be voting for December's winners, and then after that for the yearly winners.

You have a pretty good point, but the way it is now is fine. BTW I like Ti Programs as much as the next guy, but to ogle them like playmates is going way WAY to far.

How come Assembly Studio 86 didn't qualify? Or is it like going into this weeks prog of the week catagory?

Assembly Studio 86 is for this week's award and therefore on next month's ballot (if it wins).

Assembly Studio 86 3.0!
David Phillips

If it wins? I see no program that could beat it. Assembly Studio 86 is the best assembler/editor that there is for 86 assembly. It is a very professional program, especially with the extensive online help. I would be surprised if a major company such as Borland or Microsoft could do better, considering the quality of their development products.

This is really a good idea. :-D POTW, POTM, POTY. Though I'd rather not pronounce that last acronym out loud. *grin*
I agree with Mr. Rabeler - let the programmers hack up stuff during all the month of X, then start voting on them the first day of the month right after X.
To the powers that be (whatever their names may be), thank you for putting PRIME5 as a candidate for TI-Basic POTM. (PRIME4 sort of got WAY updated.)

nobody

Why wasn't a newsletter distributed this week? I see UChip and Periodic Table won the program of the week awards.

We've been busy putting the "new section" together plus everything else we have to do. One will definately come out this Sunday.

Great idea. TICALC.org. Looks like you didn't do the PUD's that people had talked about.

The Program of the Month award wasn't the "new section" that was mentioned.

Its not like anything new was done. most of the *so called new* sections here arent really new. Bryan just works real hard and does a good job in polishing up existing ideas in other regions of the web.

instead of always hanging out here and then
now bitching about there not being any new
sections, get your damn site up!
I am so sick and tired of the server always being
down. this site was down for 17 minutes, yours has been down the last 17 months

This is a good idea. However, I don't think it's fair to only have 3 programs for each category. There are far more good programs released than the ones listed. I think it would work better with around 10-20 programs listed under each category. I personally only have any experience using one of the six programs listed. Someone with only a TI-82 or TI-89 wouldn't have used any of them. I'm not saying that a separate award should go for each calc, I'm just saying that at least one prog (if one is released) should be listed for each category so that everyone has something to vote for.

Re: Re: Program of the Month Award
who dat

Yeah, obviously people with an 83 are going to vote for the 83 program and likewise with the 86/92. Then it basically comes down to what is the most popular calc(probably the 83 followed by the 86).

Well, we (the ticalc.org staff) could just pick the POTM winner ourselves, but we thought it would be better if the public decides. That way it must pass our test (for POTW) and the public's test (for POTM) to get to the POTY ballot.

Re: Re: Re: Program of the Month Award
toto

yes you say it.
Looking the surveys, i can see that there is really more people who have a 86 than a ti92 or ti82, so, logically, the programs for the most currently calc has more probability to win, because more people vote for it.
Maybe make one winner for each calc ? i don't know. Think ahead !

Survey says:
That 14.9% of the people who come to Ticalc.org have a TI-83, while 21.3% have a TI-85 and 36.6% have a TI-86.
Now, in regards to the POTM voting.
While my program PRIME5 enjoyed a 1-vote lead for a while, Quake has blasted away to a 7 point lead. Now, what does this say? Even though Quake was written for the less popular calculator, and PRIME5 was written for the more popular calculator, why does Quake win? (And let's admit it - it's pretty obvious which programs are going to win - UNIVAC wouldn't have any trouble here). Not because of calculator popularity. Because, to put it simply, PRIME5 is a math program, Periodic Table is a science program, and Quake is a *game*. All this says is that games are more popular with the public than math programs. *sigh* At least I know there's 15 other people out there who think PRIME5 is best. :-D
